this kid that I know has always talked about srt4s because someone he knows has one that is pretty quick. 50 trim turbo and 23lbs, it is pretty quick. so one night at the race track when we're about to leave i ask him if he wants me to drive him in the fd. I have a downpipe, high flow cat intake catback and a power fc, runnin at about 13 lbs. I drove the car real light until 3rd then floored it right when i got in third. before my secondary hit he said"this is nothing. as soon as the secondary kicked in he was in his seat not moving and looking straight ahead, i took it to about 8000 in third and looked over at him and he said holy s**t. I never expected that. because he knew nothing about sequential turbo systems. I just thought his reaction was pretty funny.

i have a friend with an sti and we were both cruising around in my car down at the beach during H20(volkswagon weekend) just picking on vw's. When ever i get on the gas especially when the wastegate opens he just starts to laugh. I have a video just need to find it.

Most of the time it is just "damn." I took a honda kid for a ride one time and he said he never wanted to drive his car again, lol.

Recently I took my parents (70+ years old) for a spin in my single turbo FD.

First my Dad, he flipped out in 2nd gear, "holy shit, slow down now" and he almost tore off the oh shit handle. I did one pull in 3rd at 15psi and he told me he will never go in my Fd again...lol

Now my mom diffrent story. She was way cool, her first comment was "its like the 747 taking off the runway" . I got to 100+ and she didnt complain at all. I was pushing it when I did a few controled slides and one nice launch. She loved the ride, but she keeps telling people how cute my Fd is ...

psquare8 01-08-07 02:15 PM

let them drive it to see the reaction when the 2nd turbo kicks and their head whips - only the brave do not let off the gas .....

Fatfree rx7 01-08-07 02:20 PM

lol, I remember the reactions when I had my old FD, "The smell is making me nauseous, let me out!"

From a fellow Formula Continental (my SCCA racecar in my avatar) driver when we were instructing at a drivers' school and I gave him a ride, sliding through the turns, hitting 130+ on the straight, and holding it flat while dithering the steering wheel so it wouldn't spin through a 130-mph corner: Holy S**t, this thing is a racecar for the street!" Said with a HUGE grin on his face! :)

"you should get a more comfortable car, like a m3"

mdpalmer 01-08-07 02:41 PM

musclecar guys...

This is a fun topic! My car is nonsequential, open exhaust w/ high flow, Power FC, 10/12 psi etc... not too crazy.

I took a muscle car friend of mine for a ride last week. Beautiful, coolish day, just had a new M2 Medium IC installed and am LOVING the colder charge temps. I told him about my new mod and say we should go for a cruise. "So are you going to make me wet my pants?", he says. I remarked, "Of course :p: "

After a little light crusing to get the motor up to temp I did a fairly slow launch from a dead stop. Boost at 10psi. At 4k rpm in first gear, I nailed it and we took off. I shifted to 2nd, barked the rears real good and started accelerating in 3rd. Let off and rolled up to the next light. My buddy was very impressed with the acceleration and all the crazy noises coming from the car :) Remember, he's used to a thumping V8.

At the next light, I set boost to 12psi and he commented on how nice it is to "just push a button to get more power". He was pretty amazed by all the electronics in the car and how sophisticated it was (as a system).

Green light, fairly aggressive launch, had to modulate the throttle a bit to keep the rear planted. I'm WOT from 3k rpm all through 1st, shift to 2nd lay a fat stripe, just dip into the throttle in 3rd and....

"OK, OK!!! SLOW DOWN, YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE!"
Takes a deep breath,
"Oh man, this is easily a 12 second car!!"

We weren't going that fast by the start of my 3rd gear pull (when I was asked to back off :) ), I think what freaked him out was the violent power delivery and his senses being overloaded. Turbos spooling, engine wailing, wind in his face, rear end wanting to come unglued, charge relief between gear changes, and the kick in the pants from my stock turbos was enough to make him cry uncle.

And he's a tough guy! :D I think he's in love with my car now too, he's pretty stoked on how it looks the part and is a light car to boot. + 1 for the FD!

I never get any good reactions.

1. How do I open the door to get in.
2. Takes three times to close the door.
3. How do I open the door to get out.

I have alot of honda friends. When they ride my FD they like how the G-Force pushes them back to the seat, and how the car keeps on going to 8K RPM. They also like it when i Shift how the car pulls

fsae_alum 01-08-07 03:55 PM

The reaction I've gotten from my friends is "Show me again where you're gonna put this back seat." :squint:

I am 35 years old and have driven everything fast... Before I test drove my future FD I must have test driven like 7 or 8 FDs.... When I was test driving my FD with the previous owner... On the highway topping out 4th gear... He screamed.... PLEASE DON"T KILL ME!... I'll never forget that. :)

Now that I have the FD going on 5 years now. No one wants to ride with me. They all say I am crazy... ;)

quotes

"OMG it's soo fuckin loud, what is that noise"

"I cant hear what you sayin"

"shift man shift!"
"no not yet have to reach 8grand!"

BobfisH 01-08-07 06:12 PM

OMFG is the general reaction i get :)

BobfisH 01-08-07 06:17 PM

and then there was one time with a friend, i came out of a junction totally sideways, this junction is closely followed by a left hand turn (remember we drive on the left here)

I came out of the junction sideways, turned in a bit before the second turn to kick the tail out more, clutch down - shifted into second and then kept the slide going around that corner.

The guy riding with me was screaming, and i mean screaming "NEWTON NEWTON SLOW DOWN SLOW DOWN NEWTON YOUR GONNA KILL ME SLOW DOWN MAN FUCKING HELL"

that was funny :P He loved it. He actually let out a loud scream when i hit the redline in 2nd and the exhaust went bang :) It was like he thought that was us crashing :)

:rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh: that is a good story... LOTS of good stories in here.

Most reactions are either dead scared silence or uncontrolled laughing from excitement. One of my favorite quotes is "oh shit dude.... we are pulling from that cobra!!!"

yuichiror 01-08-07 06:44 PM

Great story BobfisH! You're name is Newton???

I'm a pretty conservative driver, so most people say to me, "Damn you're car is hard to get in and out of".

The only time I really push her is when my wife gets pissed about an idiot driver in front of us and she says, "Yoshi, please pass this moron in front of us." So I gladly do so.

Then there' when I'm feeling frisky in the corners and my wife yells, "HONEY, HONEY, HONEY, PLEASE!!!"

Oh yeah, my kids just yell, "WEEEEEEE!!!"

GOTBANNED? 01-08-07 06:46 PM

I got another one OMG junior your crazy! meanwhile back end takin left at light and on the cell phone at the same time! JUNIOR NO NO your killing me! (hand over eyes at this point!

Rex7-93 01-08-07 06:51 PM

it was also funny the first time i took a friend for a ride after i did a dp and mp and i shifted into third at about 8200 and it backfired very loud and he let out a little scream. Then later that night he was driving behind me, and i took off fast again and got another loud pop, and he called me and said"your car is shooting flames!!" that made me laugh.

Kento 01-08-07 07:00 PM

"You need better [i.e., more supportive] seats and a roll cage in this damn thing..."

"Holy *#@*...how much power did you say these things have?"

"Sorry about your [passenger] door handle..."

dabigesii 01-08-07 07:14 PM

Most of the time it's nonverbal reactions such as facial expressions lol. Other times its "Holy fuck this thing is fast" or "Did we just get sideways when you shifted into second?" or "Damn, I hate you I fucking love your car".
