"Peg Leg" Diff

My friend bought an FD that used to have an automatic transmission. It still has the original differential, and he said that everyone is referring to it as a "peg leg" diff. What exactly does this mean?

No clue, but as far as i know the only difference between the auto diff and manual are the gear ratios, 3.9:1 compared to 4.1:1 respectively. The actual limited slip is the same.

:dunno: no FD came with an open diff...

The term "peg leg differential" or "peg leggers" refers to a specific type of burnout. When you perform this burnout, you only get one wheel spinning which is typically seen in open differentials such as trucks. Hence the term "peg leg" (like a pirate having one peg leg).

Everyone is correct so far. The auto differential has a different gear ratio than the manual. That is the only difference. Also, the FD's only came with a limited slip differential which would deter the fact that your friend is accusing the FD to be "peg legging." It's either both wheels spinning during a burnout or none (this would just put wear and tear on the clutch).

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I think that hits the nail on the head.

^^Yep, you got the nail on the head.
