passenger window problems
 

.... as the title says I am havind window problems. to be more exact the passenger window is not working at all.(window is stuck down) seems like either no power is getting to the motor or it has just called it quits. :( I'm assuming i need to take it to mazda to get it replaced or whatever, But i was wandering if anyone else has had similar problems? I know the dealer is gonna over chargeme to fix it but could someone give me a ballpark figure of what kind of price i might be looking at?

mess with the switch and listen very carefully. If you hear the motor give a small amount of effort, its your window and you need to check the rack or weatherstripping that guides it up. If no sound... then well... its the motor. And the motor isnt hard to replace. Just remove your passenger door panel, then remove the plastic shielding held on by that annoying tacky tarry stuff and it should be easliy accessible. It'll save you alot from labor.

I REALLY hate to ask this, but are you sure the window lock isnt enabled?

Thanks for the inpute! i checked and the motor is "dead" quiet. so i am almost positive that is the problem. Do you have any idea how much a new one will run me?

I had a same problem with my window. I listened to the motor but it did not make any sound. I opened up the door panel and greased up the rails and now its working great ;)

*Every mech. shop I visted to check on my window told me that the motor was out. I'd lube them first and see what happens before anything.

^that's good to know, i will be opening mine up tomorrow, I hope it's something that simple.

i know this sounds stupid but.... spray tire shine... yes tire gloss/shine... down the sliding part of the window... spray enough to let it gravity do more than just pull the fluid down. work the window up and down. Since you say you heard no sound going up try making the window go down and i fit doesnt work push the window up and down with your hands while you work it with the switch. For this reason, my window also got stuck. But it was just due to the weatherstripping guide getting off the rack. You might want to check that too.

^^ WINDOW motors BARELY go out on ANY car... remember its just the MOTOR of the CAR that goes out... not the motor of the window =)

I took off the interior panel, and i can't see how to get to the window motor. i tried taking off the speaker also but b/c the window is down it is holdind in the speaker incloser also. any tips? :confused: [IMG]http://www.freepixhosting.com/upload...s/IMG00063.JPG[/IMG]

You know, instead of being stuck, or being the motor. It could also be the contact inside the control switch. In this case you would also not hear the motor trying to work because the contact has failed. This happened on my drivers side and I just replaced the control unit only. Was so easy and about $200 from dealer, $70 used. Obviously took the used one.

^I thought that maight have been it too but if that were the problem shouldn't I at least be able to control it from the driver's side then? the DS window works fine but i'm not able to controle the PS from either switch.

True, then maybe this is ruled out then.

But check how they are interlocked with each other though, that I am not sure about, since only the driver's side on my car was screwed up. Worth a try.

Ok, I just checked again and I am now able to hear the motor trying to move( but still no go), so hopefully the motor is still good. to lube it up, should I just apply the lube to the backside of the flat looking rain that is somewhat covered up (pic above)?

Update!

I can hear the motor click when I press down on the switch but when i press up i hear nothing. Is there a way i can manually crank the window up until i get this worked out?

I can't really say but your window is most likely off its tracks, did you check to see if there are any lose pieces on the inner side of the door? I had a friend of mine that had his window jammed then the motor lost a piece that held the window up. You aren't having any problems with the driver side window are you?

I couldn't hear any lose peices rattling around. And the driver's side is working just fine. I don't know what's up yet but i got a local shop that is gonna check it out for me(no charge) and let me know what i need to fix it. Thanx for the input guys, I'll let you know what happens

this happened to me one time, turned out the lock out switch was on on the driver's door..... :ban:

If it does turn out that you need a new motor. I have a passenger motor for sale. It worked perfect before I took it off my buddy's car.

FD Rey, Thanks for the offer but the problem has been resolved. I took it to a local shop and within about 10 minutes they traced the problem down to a bad ground. they connected a new one to the door and it runs like new again :bigthumb: . They only charged me $20 , but after i left i realized i still couldn't controle the passenger window from the driver side switch. I am gonna try and ground that one some time soon but i am not too worried about it at the moment now that i can at least control it from the passenger side. :)
