Parts Roundup: Handbrake Boot Frame

Good afternoon gentleman, I'm rounding up interior parts for my build and I cant seem to find the plastic holder that you attach the handbrake boot to. I don't know if there is a part number for that particular piece or if it comes attached to the OEM boot. I didn't see any reference to it in the FSM handbrake portion. Maybe I'm calling it the wrong term in my searches (handbrake, emergency brake, parking brake) but I haven't been able to find it by itself or a part number. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Here's a reference pic I saw on the web of the part in question:

Unfortunately I think that retaining piece the boot is stapled to only comes with the boot and I haven't seen it for sale separately. I'm guessing it's discontinued.

If you don't have one at all, I suggest making a WTB thread in the Marketplace for one. If you do have one and it's damaged, you can repair it. I did the same. It's a low load non-structural piece that's only there to give the bottom of the boot a shape, You could even bend up some metal to fit if you want to try that. It's a very simple piece. Dimensions and pics would help and I can supply that.

^Yep. Probably worth finding a ratty used boot and stealing the plastic off of it.

Do NOT try and staple the new boot to the plastic. I tried a few variations and just ended up splitting the plastic. Mazda used some weird industrial stapler or something. At most a little contact adhesive is really all you need.

Thanks guys, Ill see if I can procure one from the marketplace. Id be terrified of trying to staple anything into the brittle plastic on this car lol. I may end up just fabing one together with some aluminum, the piece doesn't look too complicated to bend and replicate. Then like you suggested Dale, use adhesive to keep everything fit and tidy.

I bought this boot set off eBay. I found the quality definitely good enough. But one side was cut too short and I couldn't get it to overlap the sides of the plastic frame as much as I wanted.

I wound up using some leftover double-sided 3M tape on the short side and it holds really well. On the long enough side, I used a normal tiny home stapler that would not go through the plastic at all. What I wound up doing (before I used the tape, which was much easier) was align the stapler right on the existing staple holes. Then it worked perfectly.

So that's one trick you can use if you insist on stapling. However, the 3M double-sided tape really holds excellently and I'd use it all around if I were to do it again. The exact 3M tape . I didn't pick it up there, it came with Carbon Miata's FD interior trim kit (which I'm installing and will write up a lengthy review on when I'm done).

Also I believe the RHD and LHD parking brake boots are slightly different sizes FYI. You can make a RHD one work in a LHD car, I have R-Magic boots in my car, but I think I had to swap that plastic frame over and the fit is pretty good but not perfect.

That's the exact boot set I ordered heh. They had a version with the "RX7" logo typeface but I opted to go without. Glad to hear the material is good and appreciate the heads up on the fitment, I have a bunch of that 3M tape so I should be prepared.

Dale I've never seen those R-Magic boots until you mentioned them, they look very premium, even better then the redline boots.

They really aren't. They look good but they are a thin vinyl material and mine are starting to get crappy looking. Long term I need to replace them.

^That's not what I have. Now I'm not sure what I have :)
