What is the part number for our Oil Filters?

Do most of you use the Mazda OE Oil Filters?

Probably going to put 1 10/30 bottle and the rest 20/50 Castrol GTX?

The part number is B6Y2-14-302 according to the invoice I got last week. I always use the Mazda filters, but I don't like skimping when it comes to my baby. Not sure about mixing the diffrent viscosities(sp?) of oil, but I wouldn't think it's a good idea.

I use the Bosch filter for my FD (part #3300). I can't imagine that the OE filter is any better than aftermarket filters. Who makes them? My bet would be Purolator, and I won't use that on my cars...just seems too cheap. The OE filter on my Subaru was a purolator, and i wasn't impressed with it.

Who cares though...assuming that all oil filters are roughly equal, just change your oil often and your filter too and you're not going to be any worse off than any of the rest of us :)

Use the Mazda OE filters. They run about $6.00 each. They have the anti-drainback feature that's important. Most people use 10-30, i do at least. But i live in Cali so depends where you live and your driving style.

I'm surprised you would be using 10/30 in California...it's been hot lately.....in LA that is..

I just bought a package (6) of Mazda OE filters and the part number I got is B6Y1-14-302A-CA. The part number for the gasket is 9956-41-400

Hey Knifeboy, how come your Mazda OEM Filter Part number is different from ninetyfourfd3s' (see part number above)???

by the way, did you get it from the Mazda dealer?

I use the same filters that came with the car. These are the Japanese made Mazda filters. I was told they are no longer made so I bought all the filters the dealer could get me. They are the short style but I prefer them to the longer ones that are a pain to twist on due to limited space. I like their construction more than the newer US made Mazda filters. The part number is B6Y1 14 302A. If you try to find them at the dealer make sure they don't get you the replacements. I was told the Mobil filters are very good too. But as far as Mazda filters go, I recommend going through the trouble and sourcing the Japanese made filters.

B6Y1 14 302 is made by Tokyo Roki in Japan, B6Y2 14 302 is made by Tennex in the USA. Don't know about the "A" revision to the 302 P/N. The "Y1" apparently has slightly less pressure drop through it than the "Y2," but both meet Mazda OEM specs. The Miata can tell the difference (HLA noise) but the rotary doesn't seem to care.

If you get the ones that start with a "G" instead of "B" they are a little bit taller and work fine. I figure that the extra filter media can't hurt.

TriPoint is the place that originally told me about the "G" filters, and I've been using them ever since. I ordered some from Mazdaformance.com a few weeks ago, and I believe they said that the "B" filter is shared with the Miata, and the "G" filter is shared with the MPV.
