Painted Bits
 

Finally got around to painting my interior pieces. Saw this done by BlackR1 years ago and really like how his turned out. Next are the dash panel and gauge cluster front.
And perhaps painting the door panels themselves. Anybody done that with spray paint for vinyl?
Done it on other vinyl products before. So I'm guessing it should work fine.

As well as the slight matter of putting the rest of the car back together after a full paint job of course.

3 coats Gun Metal, 3 coats Pearl Clear then 3 coats Semi Gloss Clear. The slight Pearl effect only seems to show up in sun light. But since my car is CMY I thought it might add a touch of flare.

Semi Gloss Black with Satin Gloss over it on black door handle inserts.

I striped the sticky old black crappy paint off with Motsenbocker's Lift Off paint remover safe for use on plastic. Worked great. Just had to wash the parts down real well with soap and a scuffy pad to get rid of any traces of 303 Protectant left over from years of application to the parts. So the paint wouldn't fish eye.

I also JB welded the passenger door handle in place.

Looks good. I have never had good success with the paint sticking to the speaker grills though.

I didn't repaint the grills, they're still the original black paint. (Hard to tell in the photo) Just the frames.

The grills are metal so any spray paint for metal should work just fine. Might hold better if you scuff sand them first I would guess.

Yep, no problem so far. However, my car has been sitting for the past few years.

I really like that, looks REALLY good. I have been thinking of doing this ever since I saw another post about doing this, a while back. My interior bits aren't in bad shape, but...there are little scratches on almost everything, and it is like the original paint is just...soft...or something, because the stuff scratches very easily these days.

That two-tone effect is just awesome.

It was the wink. I took it to mean perhaps more than you meant it to. :-)

That's why I repainted mine. What every that soft feel paint Mazda used in 93 to cover the trim pieces with starts to peal and look like crap.
