...probably. Anal retentive...definitely. BUT it makes me feel better...
I'm currently rebuilding the engine (actually it's already finished and I'm swapping everything over from the old one to the new one, but whatever), and my wiring harness was in really bad shape so I got a new one from Ray Crowe. I figured since it's so hot in the engine bay I'd go ahead and wrap the new harness with some thermal tape. My only regret is that I can't wrap the connections too. :( Oh well. Oh the tape is Thermo-Tec and apparently I got it from Phantasm Motorsports in Raleigh, NC, even though I went straight to the Thermo-Tec website, at least I think I did lol. |
I've replaced the entire front harness in the past so I have seen the condition that they are in after 15+ years.
Personally I would only wrap the engine harness as its in the only one thats gets hot cause its next to the engine, but I guess if you've got the whole thing off, you might as well do it all. |
I did the same thing. Bought a new harness and rewrapped it. ;)

Sweet, thanks for the pics.
I am getting ready to do the same thing. Just received my harness form Malloy. I have one question for you guys. Of the 4 injector clips, 2 of them on the new harness have a white band around the wiring as it enters the clip. It is one of the primary and one of the secondary clips. Do the ones with the white band go to the primary and leading injectors closest to the front of the car(bumper)? My old harness doesnt have the white band and also has aftermarket injector clips wired in, so I want to be sure I get the correct clip to the correct injector. Thanks |
Yes, the white strip denotes which plug goes towards the front of the car.
|
I wish I would have thought of doing that when I was installing the motor into the car with my brand new harness. I am going to try to get some on at least where the engine harness goes over the turbos.

Thanks I'm also doing away with all my emissions with this rebuild so I won't even need some of these connections. EDIT: This morning I woke up to find some of the thermal tape had some loose and wasn't tightly wrapped anymore, so I went back through with wire ties, just for those of you that are planning to do the same thing. |
Looks like something out of an alien spacecraft.
The truth is out there... |
Nice job. Did you just use the thermotec 1.5" tape? Like this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Nice. I did mine with silicone self adhering electrical tape. Better sealing against oil and water and higher heat resistance. The only problem with silicone is that it has low abrasion resistance.
