Overheating problem! plz help
 

hello i have a 1994 Mazda RX-7 Twin Turbo an the car is always overheating? since there are no more than 7 RX-7 on iceland no one knows these cars enough to find the problem? if im driving up a hill the car overheats and i have to wait 20-30min before i can start the car again. does anyone here know what it can be?

I would do a search for overheating because the troubleshooting is the same....

but to start...

1) Check that your fans turn on (both of them)

2) did you recently flush to coolant? (make sure your burp the system)

3) check/change your thermostat...

overheating in iceland... priceless

are both of the fans appose to be turned on? they both work. but the other one is for the aircondition right? it works to but only for the aircondition..

sell the car, my best advice.

at what temp do you call overheating?

it goes to High and sometime's over it.. that causes the car to overheat

Both fans should turn on simultaneously, whether for A/C use or high coolant temps.

you are not telling temperatures. If it is really overheating, you have a waterpump that could not be working, extremely unlikely, waterpump failure is usually the seal going and loosing water outide but not affecting the cooling, the thermostat or the radiator. either of these clogged or not functioning will not allow proper cooling anywhere, even in ICELAND. do a visual inspection of the exterior of radiator and the A/C condensor for clogging. if thjese are ok, remove the thermostat and run it. if this fixes it, put in a new thermostat. oh, by the way, if you are looking for helpful advice, look somewhere else because this is the know it all and you don't forum

Jeez that's harsh...

anyways, I consider myself pretty educated but still don't know many things on this car even after 8 years of ownership.

Just when I think I have a new problem, I do a search and find the EXACT same question.

Also, you will find that the most educated members tire of the same questions and ask that you do a search...tough questions seem to draw in the "big named" crowd :D

Also, you will find in your search that if you are going by your stock temp guage then you might have already overheated your engine to ruin! The stock temp guage is NOT linear and by the time the guage hits "H" its cooked!

If it really is hitting "H" and you don't have a aftermarket temp guage then I wouldn't drive the car until you can figure the problem out....good luck!

oring failure?

Just like with any car, you need to check:

*thermostat
*water pump
*fans operating properly (motors, relays, thermosensor)

FWIW, Iceland is really nice this time of year.

Replace your thermostat with an oem unit, and check the fans. Make sure your airbox is not squishing the radiator hose underneath it.
