naw don't worry about it!

bullshit...if that stock temp guage goes up its not a good thing. it is completely and entirely inaccurate.

get a good temp guage and keep an eye on things.

if it gets hot...let it cool off...prolonged overheating causes damaged o rings and side seals.

that costs big money

Any aftermarket gauge will be better than the stock one.

You need to be more specific when describing the problem. You said the temp gauge needle rose but didn't say how far.
To confuse the issue a little more, you said the reading went down but not reaching "bottom". Since when does the temp gauge reach bottom when it's warm? If it does then you've got another problem. Did you mean to say "middle"?

what temp did you get up to exactly? IF you dont got a after market water temp gauge, what the heck is stopping you from getting one? IF you don't got one, you just gotta take the risk of overheating yoru enigne, mines got up to about 240 once and the needle did not even start to move :0 if yours started moving... good luck dude!

Well my knowledge is only from reading up on fd's, but according to http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...liabiltiy.htm:

Overheating the RX-7 can be fatal for the engine because the side seals can be damaged by excessive heat. The damaged seals allow coolant to pass into the combustion chambers. A total engine rebuild is necessary to repair the seals.

and from http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/buyaused.htm:
The car must never have overheated in any circumstance.

and from http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...emp_gauge.htm:

Why do you need to add a water temp gauge when the 3rd gen RX-7 comes with one?
Because the stock gauge won't show a rise in water temp until it's very, very hot and too late.

Sounds like overheating an engine is something a) you want to avoid at all costs but if you do b) actively alleviate the problem as soon as you detect any overheating!
