Overboost problem..

I finally got my car running 100%... thx to mazsport in largo! but the only problem is with my mp the car overboosts.. First off its hard to tell how much it overboosts, because my defi boost gauge will read 14psi, my boost controller will read 1.22 bar (around 17psi) and my PFC will read .79 bard (around 11psi).. im still on the stock snails, non-seq.. I can deal with 11psi and 14psi.. but not 17psi, and then again how do i know which one im really at? I dont have 400$ to port the wastegate, is there anything else i can do to prevent over boosting?

Also on another note only my left headlight will pop up, any suggestions as to why?

Thx alot guys, -Eric

control boost with your right foot until you can take care of the porting. going slow for a little bit is a lot better than popping your motor and not going at all.

I would first verify that the vacuum source(s) for the boost controller, boost gauge, and PFC were accurate. You can use a vacuum gauge for this. If its not a partially clogged nipple then I would use the same vacuum source for all three devices...if you're not already. If that doesn't help then I'd make sure the wastegates are working smoothly and opening fully at the desired psi. You can use an air compressor with a regulator for this. Those are the first things I'd check off the top of my head...

$400 to port your wastegate? shit man...do it yourself for free. all you need is a few hours, a few of metric wrenches, and a grinder.

i ported mine a couple of months ago and it really cleared up the spiking problem.

I have difficulty controlling boost in cooler weather with a mid pipe and resonated mid pipe also. I use a Profec B to help but still get some creep and spike when it starts getting cooler. I have no problems at all when I introduce some restriction into the exhaust such as with metal substrate cat. Flows about the same power wise according to the butt dyno.

Yeah this guy is right Its really easy with basic tools you can take the turbos off in like 3 to 4 hours then take them apart and port the wastegate do a search its really easy.

Not everyone is a hands on type of person but that seems like the prices I have seen around to port wastegates.

your pfc map sensor will need to be the one that is right or you WILL RUN LEAN
it is the guy who is adding the fule. EG.if it thinks in 8 psi it adds fule for that if 20 psi it will add for that the outh 2 dont mean shit !!!! stop driving the car untill you are shure whats going one i try to hook them all up to the same port
it just psi sigenals for all these not air volume.
that said... iam mad at how thay say to go single turbo non seg.

When you add up the cost for R&R of the turbos and then the work of porting the wastegate, you'll be about there. Add up the time it takes for you to do those things and estimate $70-80 per hour for a shop do to the same work.

Is there a "How to" to port your wastegate? I spike, and really need to port it :)

If you are only spiking, a boost controller will take care of that. You only need to look at porting the wastegate or restrictor plates if you are having boost creep.

Jesus. No wonder these cars have such a bad reliability rep...

I swear to god, some FD owners could fuck up a wet dream.

bring the car down to ART in sarasota. i'm sure they'll do it really cheap (maybe even $200 or $250).

i would help but i'm in orlando, my tools are in sarasota, i don't have my car right now because the motor is out getting a rebuild, and i'm always in/out of town. sorry bud.
