Out with the new and in with the old? Gauge cluster questions!

Hi all, my first post here. Long time (un-registered) lurker, first time poster looking for some assistance from the seemingly endless knowledge of these forums.

I have a 99 S8 JDM RHD FD and I've recently been lucky enough to find a Mazdaspeed cluster of which I've been looking for since I've owned the car.

Attachment 745269

The only issue I have is that my car as standard has a boost gauge in place of the oil pressure gauge present here, and so I'm looking for options on how to make this function.
Option a). Make the oil pressure gauge work, add an aftermarket boost gauge.
Option b). Make this dash recognise a boost signal and get a custom gauge face to make this a boost gauge.

I'm trying to understand how I could make either option work - openly admitting auto electrical is far from my strong suit. I can follow a set of instructions but give me a wiring diagram and I am quickly lost.

I have found the below threat on converting oil pressure cluster cars to function with a new boost gauge cluster but unsure if this would simply work in reverse?

Open to any options or ideas here! Keen to pop this in the car and get it all firing with the right signals.

Thanks!

The problem is that youve got a Mazdaspeed cluster designed for a previous revision of the FD. Mazdaspeed made clusters for your revision, having the boost gauge and 6 o clock style tachometer, but they’re blue. Being a rare and expensive piece, i’d probably not modify that one if it were me and search for the correct cluster. I think doing the reverse, an old cluster in a newer car is a bit of unknown territory as well.

I think it can be done, but you would need to do some leg work.

Big thing is there's no oil pressure sender in the later cars, you'd have to get the sender and get it installed. Then you'd need to wire that sender to the cluster, that will require some digging in the electrical diagram. Shouldn't be too bad, there should clearly be a wire that goes from the cluster to the sender.

You could also just plug it in and have a non-working oil pressure gauge.

As stated, this is kind of new territory since many in the English speaking world don't have the later cars.

Thanks guys. I'm aware Mazdaspeed do a newer version but personally not a fan of the blue cluster.

I'm thinking I will try and make this work, but will probably go down the route of investigating the current oil pressure sensor (I believe it's a which rather than a pressure resistor) and working out how to change/adapt and rewire this to make this cluster work. Lots to do!
