Obviously this guy has the magical, mystical, unicorn FD that is so awesome and customized that no one on the planet owns a FD that even comes close to its level of performance. LOL! Get over yourself kid...and I don't care if you are 50...your attitude is befitting of a 12yr old.

Me and my girlfriend both drive the 7 at the track,also i let a good friend do about 8laps at a local race track.he owns 2 rx7s and i know that he will let me drive them also when they are finished. one of his 7s is a 13b pp and the other is an fd which will be used in a class of racing called pro7.im looking forward to this.if you trust a mate and know he wont do anything stupid than why not let them drive.its quite freaky watching some one else drive your car around a track while your watching.

No one drives my FD. That would be like giving my wife to another man to try...NO WAY!!

Had my engine rebuilt by ( not mentioning his name ) twice. 1st. time it blew on me. The 2nd. time I was over seas and blew while my best friend was driving. After that I got it rebuilt for the 3rd. time ( New guy ) ever since it's been rock solid. Regardless if it was my friends fault or not I will not let him drive it again. I just don't even want to put that burden on him. I would rather just let it sit till I get home and take my chances instead of starting it every week or so.

no one drives my car... my car's hard to drive as it is and I have pretty good reflexes ..

and ontop of that its lowered so I have to know what ramps I can and cant take and at what speed LOL , then we have the whole rotary business .. yeah I dont trust ANYONE with my car.

I trust my father driving it w/o me. I'd never loan the car out to a friend but I would let a select 2 or 3 drive it with me riding shot gun.


I've seen enough threads on here over the years of FDs getting wrecked or blown up when lent to people who don't understand how hard core this car is.

Sometimes I go to autocrosses with my friend Greg. Its 140 miles one way. We will drive take only one car (his or mine), and both drive it. Its a fun competition driving the same car and comparing times. He owns a 94 FD with similar mods to mine. Its always fun when I beat him in his car.

That's the only time anyone else drives my car. Not worth the risk to let anyone else drive it. No way!!!

My wife (though she really doesn't like it), my experienced son, and an occasional trusted driver at an autocross so I can observe the car in action.

No general loans for a weekend jaunt or something similiar though.

I treat my FD's like they are my kids while i dont drive them as much as i would like to and i have one for sale im quite picky who im willing to sell my car to. for me these cars require respect from the driver, while i love getting tail happy in my FD i fell weird just letting someone park it in my driveway lol.

I absolutly love FD's and I dont let anyone drive mines cuz its mines (also im too poor to afford a new one for fun or a rebuild)! They have been my favorite real life cars for the last 15 years and I'm greatful that I am lucky enough to own one. I have no doubt that my car has saved my life a few times because if I were driving anything under 80-100k and did the same things I have done with this car, I probally would be dead. Hell, I'd go as far as to say my FD has shaped and changed my career, allowing me to look at things in a very different way. That being said, I dont agree with op's opinion about how FD's are super car. Their awesome cars (espeically for the money) and they were light years ahead of their time (I think they look better then most new cars today!) but they do not compare with any of the hypercars out there now adays and its no where near a F40 stock. yes you can make them as powerful and handle as good as a supercar but not without a lot of work and money and it probally wont be as reliable. If it was a choice between a FD and a pagani huayra, I'm taking the huayra.

BTW: A proper hyper car will not snap oversteer like a FD will if you lose it! Their suppose to scare you but their suppose to do that with their power and handling ability, not the shear fear of flying into a wall or curb (which will probally cause the car to flip) at 60mph when you lose it!

It sounds like some of you guys need to find better friends. If someone isn't responsible enough to know the right time and place to let loose and/or explore the car's limits, I think that could be a reflection of character flaws I'd rather avoid.

Sporty cars are meant to be enjoyed, go find a safe place like an autocross or track day and have fun. Making the transition from an underpowered AWD car to the RX-7, I spun the car at least once per event for about three events... so did a few of my friends, but that's why you push it when there are cones and runoff areas rather than guardrails and cliffs.

And if you guys are using drifting-inspired suspension setups and then hating how much the car oversteers, why not change some parts around to make the car easier to drive fast?

When it came time to register my project FD I had to take it to CHP for a vin check...
I had to hand the keys over to a highway patrol officer and watch him stall the car out nearly a dozen times before he got the car moving :(

Since that day it has just been me and a trusted tuner behind the wheel.

Steve Osley (tuner) drove my car on the dyno one time lol. Other than that I've drove it since i've owned and thats it.

For me, it has nothing to do with trust or capability of my friends. Its my car. If it is wrecked, popped, banged or squished, I want to be the one driving. No matter who is at fault.

I let mdpalmer drive mine and I get to drive his.
He even drove mine to work one day to show his buddies the sequential feeling of an FD. However on his way home from work a cop followed him about 10 miles in street traffic and now he does not want to touch it. Gotta love that CYM!

I have driven his LSX FD many times. Its interesting to see the differences. The main one is that my FD feels slow on acceleration first time I drive her after run in his FD.

I have only allowed it to be valet parked once: in Laguna Beach where the guys park all sort of exotics. I ended up having to go out to their lot and retrieve it as the guy smashed the clutch pedal stuck. I had no idea what he did but I gave it a couple pumps and it returned to normal.

I have let some of my longtime friends, especially ones that ride motorcycles, take it for a drive. I figure they know how to handle the kick and that has not steered me wrong yet.

All in all its a car...and you want to let some people experience it they way you do!

I let my wife drive it, because she is my accountant for purchasing upgrades. And my friends with turbo'd 7s. The end. Otherwise the understanding of the engine and how the car acts is not something I want to be teaching someone with my 7. These engines rev so freely and fast that it is easy to mess things up. I know, I have flipped a 2nd gen into the ditch... Lesson learned
