OS Giken Twin Plate Install
 

Hi,
Does anyone have install experience with an RE Amemiya/OS Giken twin plate clutch please? I just installed one with new plates and adaptor kit and a Mr C's short shift I shipped from Japan.

When the engine isnt running I can get all gears, when the engine is running I can get none. If I try and start the car with the clutch in and first gear the engine turns but is obviously dragging on the plates. I have adjusted the cyclinder arm right out (get adjustable one in adaptor kit) and through the inspection hole can see the plates move but I guess not enough!

Im wondering if I have put the plates in the wrong way, potentially swapped them over and/or have them facing the wrong way? Is this possible? Does anyone have or can scan any pictures for the actual clutch install or can comment on what I have found please? I have the install docs for the adaptor kit but not the clutch itself.

This is the last thing to sort before I get the FD back on the road after 5 months and a few deccent mod upgrades :) Im desperate folks :)

I have not installed the OS, but it should be similar to most clutches. What you describe sounds like you have the clutch disc in backwards.

I had a similar "learning" experience with an ACT clutch. I was not a happy camper...:cursing:

Ah this is what I thought! Now the problem is which plate is in backwards or are both of them as its a twin plate clutch! Bugger!

When you get it running I wouldn't mind hearing how you like the clutch though. :) I was interested in a twin plate too.

hahaha OK.. does that mean its working now..? I know about that clutch, but I didnt put mine it my mech did.

The OS Twin is an EXCELLENT clutch. VERY streetable and can handle all kind of power...500+ hp to the wheels. AND it makes the coolest "klinking" sound when the clutch is pressed in...kind of sounds intimidating...

Install was an average clutch install. BE WARNED though...If you take the clutch off after it has been broke in, make sure you have the plates in the exact spot that they were before. Once the clutch breaks in, the plates warp, and if you get them in the wrong place, you'll have VERY similar symptoms to what db2boy had.

Hi guys,
I have 2 brand new clutch plates that I shiped in from Japan so I know they are not warped. After chatting to a few people now and my mechanic (he does stuff when I dont have time and he is a rotary man :) ), we are sure I have just put the plates on wrong.

We are going to wip the box out on the ramp tomorrow night and take a look. Canman6969 has kindly offered to ask his mechanic about the plates as he installed the exact same clutch - hope he can remember the install!

Sorry it took sooooo long, it was hard to traslate.
I only got a little info for you. Look for a number on
the center area of the disk. Number 1 is closest to the
flywheel and 2 is closest to pressure plate. Now you need to find out which way is best for those plates, meaning if they are flipped, my mech couldnt answer that, but he said if you know how its suppose to look you will know. ALSO the biggest thing he sai was about the mechinism for the OS twin plate, you sent me the pic of it. He said if that is not properly installed then it will never work and its hard to do the settings. He was saying like you have to sand on the bearing, otherwise is slips or something. He said its too hard to explain he would have to see it. Also I asked a good buddy at Cockpit and he said the same thing I hope this helps a little bit.
