The opposite of the "I wrecked my car" threads.
With all the threads about kids wrecking their cars these days, I thought you guys might want to see a car being put back on the road.
Here's my car as bought...no engine or trans., ratty interior, but straight and plastic-free body: http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/james/001.jpg Engine bay getting re-done: http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/james/013.JPG Painted but no clear yet: http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/james/017.jpg Cleared and awaiting reassembly: http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/james/020.jpg http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/james/021.jpg Please ignore the Protege5 wheels; they are just for rolling the car around. |
Nice, what are your plans for the car?
Good Stuff
You and TurboJeff must be cut from the same cloth... hehe edit The first picture looks like the RX-7 boneyard in Ottawa. Is that a Canadian FD? |
Man that's AWESOME...you did a great job on that paint. It looks really good, can't wait to see the finished product. How much did you pay for that first pic up there? I love seeing threads like this!!
very nice...nothing better than seeing a messed up FD brought back to life...keep us updated...i'd definitely like to see it completed...btw, where did you go to get this car? what's with all the FC's in the background...was it a rx-7 junkyard/graveyard?
Looks GREAT! I'm happy to see you doing a quality paint job, it is worth the work.
where is that place that you picked your car up from?
I would LOVE to find an FD like that and restore it! Looks great man!

In the first pic you have the chromed RX7 rims. If you are willing to get rid of the chromed center caps I am interested.
BTW, Nice work on the restoration. It's looking great. Keep us posted.
Wasn't that FD on ebay a couple of times? Like someone stated above, goodjob on restoring her. When I get back from training, this is the same route I want to take.
I love! white FD's
wow, paint looks great... nice color ;).
what junkyard is that first picture? there are 7's everywhere!
Superb effort
Im also curious to know how much you paid for the car. Keep receipts of everything and let us know what the final cost was.
Looks awesome, man! How much longer until she's back on the road?

looks awesome man good work. what front end is going on?
I think the car may have been on Ebay before. It came from a place called RX7-Heaven which was in Memphis TN, then moved to Dexter, MO, and now they are back in Memphis again. I paid $3,000 for the car as it appears in the first picture, and I think by the time it's on the road and "done" I'll have about $9000 in it. I've never owned an FD before so I thought the best way to do it would be to rebuild an entire car so I'll know all about it. A new street-ported engine is getting delivered to me soon and I'm restoring the interior with new upholstery from leatherseats.com and door panels from another car that had 60k on it. For now, it's just going to get the stock front end becuase I'm not really into most of the bodykits out there, except the Mazdaspeed ones, which I don't want to pay for.
Thanks for all the support guys. |
Niiiccceee.
Glad to see one saved from the wrecking yard. |
Well... 4 Year later it's still not done. But there's been more stuff done to it.
I moved from Missouri to Kentucky, and work on the car has been slow, but the interior is in: http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/ja...7/DSC00821.JPG And I'm putting my suspension on (Tokicos and Eibachs): http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/ja...7/DSC00822.JPG I'm hoping to get it on the road, finally, this summer. |
wow that interior looks great! keep up the good work man
