I am glad to see that my question has drawn so much interest. I wish I had the expertise to develop a conversion system for the FD. I think that with the proper precautions that this system could help make the FD more reliable.

I remember watching footage of LPG tanker trucks driving into a solid (thick) concrete wall at 75mph. That somabitch tank just popped off and bounced off that wall. No boom. I'm sure making a smaller tank is possible too.
