"Old vs. New" Stock Turbos - Comparison

All - I purchased some very, very low mileage stock turbos early this week, and was informed that they "are the later type N3C1, not the N3A1" models.

Questions:
Are these parts numbers, or casting numbers? Or other?
Are there any other differences between these "models" other than the numbers (construction, compressor, tolerances, etc)?

Thank you,
Chris.

PS - I know there are other versions/models after 95, but I am specifically referring "US Spec" year versions as shown above.

Try searching the forums for those numbers, you'll get most of your answers and some photos. These are portions of a part number which happen to also be etched onto the casting. From memory, it's N3C1-02-200 or something like that. I don't happen to know the difference between the N3A1 and N3C1 except that my stock 1995 has the N3C1.

Is there a part number on the turbos themselves? I've got a set of '95 twin turbos in storage that will go on on my car.

Hey, everyone. I was told that these were off a 95. However, I haven't yet received the turbos in the mail yet, so I can't read the entire part # off of it; I only have the numbers I posted at the beginning of this thread. I searched already based on these partial numbers, but no definitive answers from said search.

With that said, usually, different part numbers imply a change of SOME type. So my question still stands: if these are different part numbers, are the turbos different in any way (93/94 vs. 95) for USDMs (other than just being manufactured at a later year)?

Again, I am NOT referring to JDM differences vs USDM, just specifically as noted above.

I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Thanks in advance.
Chris.

From what I understand, all US spec turbos are functionally the same. The later turbos (on the '95s) have the restrictor pills built into the wastegate actuator instead of inserted in the rubber hose. I'm not positive if there's any other substantial difference.

Regardless, they won't be making any more power. The '99+ 280hp twins were Japan-only, and likely have a VERY different part number.

The latter fd's in Japan had 280hp because there is no cat in the down pipe and it ran 12psi of boost stock. Thats where the extra power came from. I would save my money on buying 99spec turbos and go for BNR stage 3's instead. The BNR's are good to over 400rwhp. Not bad if you ask me.
