3rd Gen, orr... something else?

Ok I couldn't decide if I wanted to stick this in the classifieds or not, but due to this is an opinion thing, its not going in the classifieds.

I own a 1999 ZX2 and a 1978 Mustang II Ghia, both of which are going to be modified and played with, but the ZX2 just isn't as much as I wanted. I want something that is going to be fast, can be fast, looks awesome, and sounds awesome all at once. My friend has an RX7 but I think it was a 1st or 2nd gen, I've never driven any 3rd gens, but I've driven 6 RX8s when I worked for a Ford/Mazda dealership and LOVED them.

So I guess what I'm saying...... is...

Could someone give me some info on the 3rd Gen RX7, not necessarily how much horsepower is stock, but saying that if I managed to get one how much power and torque could she pull if I were to pour oh say.... $5-6000 into the engine? By the way I'm new to the forum here so yeah.... heh.

But yeah, I want a car that has a beautiful bodystyle and I've found the 3rd Gens to be pretty stunning if they are in good condition and I've driven a few rotaries when I was working at that dealership, and though they remind me of a riding lawnmower on the low end, once they peak up there.... there is no replacement for hearing the engine at the 9k mark :)

Airbox Intake: ~$400
Downpipe: ~$300
Hi-Flow Cat: ~$400
Exhaust: ~$500
Intercooler Kit: ~$1500
Power FC: ~$1200

About $4300 in parts, a little over $5000 including labor and tuning, you can expect about 320-330 RWHP. :)

Thats naturally aspirated, no turbo? (I'm assuming you mean with an engine already with the turbo due to mentioning the intercooler)

SpeedKing 01-30-04 02:05 AM

All 3rd gen. RX-7s are twin turbo. :)

Ah sorry, you'll have to excuse me, I wasn't aware of that, now I know :) Hmmmm thats even more of a "Sweeeeet" thing to think about.... hmmmm.

Search on the rest of your questions, they aren't new. Follow that up by choosing a car you actually know some basic facts about for building up power.

radiator 400-500
new ast 140
boost gauge 100 (includes pod)
Boost Controller 300-400
getting the PFC tuned= ??$$

do some searches, look at the newbie stuff on what to look for when you buy one, also seach "coolant seals" and "blow apex seal"....also if you run lean, or more boost than 14 with stock fuel system, you will blow your engine

if your increasing engine output, also count in the fact that you will be eventually (time mostly depending upon your tune job and how much boost ur running) be replacing/rebuilding your motor which runs another 5-8k

you won't get many responses to this thread because it gets answered every day just about...someone should start an automated response

your really not gonna wanna spin the engine to 9k unless you mod it to do so, in anycase, read the links above and have fun.

P.S. FD's are getting fairly cheap now adays, you might beable to find one already modded fairly heavily and just need to tune it a bit to have a killer deal
