Oilpan Gasket Replacement
 

Hey there fellow rotorheads, I would like to know where I can get these gaskets from and what the average retail is. My car leaks oil and I would like to fix this problem. Is it difficult to replace it and would I have to take the engine apart to fix this problem? Thank you

Your local mazda dealership or mazdatrix.com or molloy mazda. They are between 10-20bucks and the labor is a pain. search on it and you will find that many people have many different ideas on how to do it and little tips and tricks. Good luck.

You're not going to want to use a gasket. You will want something like Hondabond® or The Rightstuff for Imports™. There are plenty of other tips on the forum and online, just do a search and look around.

i was doing some other work on the engine as well, but it just seemed easier to do it on a stand than underneath and have to work either around the subframe or remove alltogether.

Oil pan gasket
 

I am about to do the same to my motor. Its leaking in a pattern that only suggests oil pan gasket leakage. I do know, that when I bought it, it didn't leak, and was only sealed with Hondabond. When I blew it up, and rebuilt it, I used both the gasket maker, and a gasket, which leaks, so I am going back to the gasket only, since i know that it was sealed properly before. My question about it would be, is it better to use a thin or a thick bead of gasket maker (hondabond etc...). I think this is one of those lifelong debates, but hey, someone's gotta start it.

i never knew mazda even made a gasket for the oil pan. even when i got a new reman i pulled off the pan to re-seal it with silicon and there wasnt a gasket installed. instead there was some other sealant that was pink.

Another good thing while you are at it is the oil pan brace...Gotham Racing sells them...check it out on the site...I just got one installed on a new reman...Supposedly solves the oil pan leaking probs.

Thank you fellas, I will be sure to check out that oil pan brace while fixing the leak. I will also have to look into Hondabond...the thing is I am not very mechanically inclined so working on this with a friend would be difficult if we don't know exactly what we are doing. I can purchase the parts and have a local shop fix it but I am not sure which shop to trust. I am situated in San Francisco. Thanks for all of your advice.

If you realy want to do it right, I suggest getting one of the new Groundzero Motorsports oil pan. Not only does it hold more oil, but the oil pan is "O" ringed. It also acts to keep the motor from twisting. If you want to know more, contact either Rob Golden of Pineapple Racing, Groundzeromotorsports, or Xcessive on this forum.

I have a pattern leak also in my FC. Some say I have to unbolt the enginbe mount, jack up the engine and get clearance that way to get the pan off. Oh well. I had nothing else to do for the next 2 weeks.
