oil in the UIM!?!?!
Yo guys...i found alot of oil in Upper Intake manifold...this isn't normal....is it? If so, what do you think it's the problem?
thanks -joe |
How much did you find? A slight coat is normal... And it will pool a little in lower areas. If it's a LOT, I'd say your turbo's need a rebuild. :)
Of course your OMP could fail too... But I've never heard of that.... |
100% Normal. It's oil coming through the PCV system.
PCV valve and vacuum hoses tap into the oil filler neck and every once in a while a bit of oil makes it's way up the filler neck during hard cornering for example and sucked into the PCV line and ends up in the UIM or intake piping. In short...don't sweat it. Regards, Crispy |
While it could be what crispy suggests, and 9 times out of them it probably is, check other things too. Pull off your intercooler and look there too. How are you boosting? The fun part is, bad boosting doesn't always mean bad turbos...so then you'll have to check that. But it sounds like everything is find and you just found oil. (if that is the case don't worry) Just spend an afternoon checking some other things before saying you know what the cause is.

Keep in mind there is a vacuum line that runs directly from the oil filler neck to the primary turbo inlet. (not the *TWO* nipples near the top of the oil filler neck. Due to the small vacuum at the turbo inlet it is constantly drawing oil vapor from the filler neck through the primary turbo. There will be oil a small covering of oil all the way through the intake system including in the IC.
This little vaccum hose and the subsequent discovery of oil int he intake IMO is the number one misdiagnosis for bad turbo oil seals. FWIW, Crispy |
