oil pressure sender unit

how much is a new one? i keep seeing 0psi... and then when i check the wire to the sender unit and disconnect/reconnect it, it goes back to "normal" 30 @ warm idle, 60 cruising, 120 WOT, and 120 @ cold start idle (with oil at "F' level on dipstick, with castrol gtx 10W30). anway, i keep worrying that im low or out of oil, or my oil pump isnt pumping. where are all the connections related to the oil pressure sender unit?? just at the sender unit and the gauge cluster? or are there others?? thanks guys, heath

First, "fix" that connector on the oil pressure sender. Sounds like it's either oxydized or the wire is broken just before the connector. If the reading is still intermittant after that, a new sender unit would be required. Last time I checked, they were in the $80 range. I don't think you can sub an aftermarket one. It's easy to replace.

yeah ive already lightly sanded teh contact on it, and sprayead electrical cleaner on it as well. ill try once more... but it seems to keep corroding for some reason.

Here's an idea of the cost for a replacement:

I would imagine that the Malloy price will be very cost to David's estimate of around $80.

what is my target pressure for
A) idle
B) crusing
C) WOT

im still trying to decide wether my sender is bad, electrical connections are bad, or if i should move up to 20W50 oil. (im running 10w30 now) thanks

If you are seeing 0 PSI any time the car is running, the sending unit is either dirty or bad (or you have a much bigger problem ;) ).

im not seeing 0.... but its close ... maybe 10-15. however, i dont know if its the sender cause i do see "normal" pressures sometimes. im worried its the pump... how can i tell?

also what psi do you guys get at idle, crusing, and WOT?? im going to switch over to 20w50 today to see if it makes much of a difference.

RotorMotor 09-18-05 06:25 PM

ok just added 20w50 .... now im seeing (after warmed up) 60psi idle, 90 cruising, and 100+ at WOT... when at "racing" temps im seeing 60 cruising, and 30 at idle. i think when it gets colder here i may switch back to 10w30. anyway are these normal/ok pressures? thanks, heath

Thats funny..I have the same funky behaivour and i thought that the case was the 20w50(i have a new sensor).I don't believe that the new sensor is faulty lol....
