Oil pressure please help! Need to move car is SD fire!

Last week I got in my car to go to work and my oil pressure gauge was reading 0. I knew that it was a little off before but it just quit on me. I revved it real quick to 3000rpm and the gauge moved up a bit (to about 5psi). I turned the car off and has sat for the weekend. I have just been ordered to evacuate my house due to the fire coming my direction. I sure as hell am not leaving my car and there is no way to move it except drive it. Is there any ghetto way to see if I have oil pressure? Will the idiot light come on if I have no oil pressure? Please help me. I need to leave in an hour.

have you checked the oil?
you can get a manual gauge?

i would see if you can get someone to tow it, get a rope.

Check to see if you are leaking, check oil level, and mess/clean with the oil sending unit connections. Turn the car back on and see if the problem is still happening. Places to check oil: oil pan, covers, and oil filter.

For emergency use, place 2-cycle mix in the gas tank. Just replace gas filters and other things. It is better than your car burning

Oil pump failure is very, very rare in these cars. I would bet your problem is an oil sending unit as they go bad all of the time. (Just gives a bad reading) Look and see if you have oil on your car and if that's the case I would drive the car away if you have to evacuate.

I have oil in my car. No leaks. The motor was rebuilt 2,000 miles ago by speedmachine so I doubt there is a problem, however If i drive it and I fry my engine then I wouldn't be able to afford to fix it. Thanks for the reply so much. I am loosing my mind. I cant get any gauges or sending units as all the stores around my house are closed. All the roads and freeways are packed and have tons of traffic. I could get a gauge/sending unit for a 2nd gen mr2 but I don't think it would be compatible.

Thanks so much guys. If anyone has anything else to say please do. I need all the help I can get now. Does anyone know if the idiot light will come on if there is no oil pressure?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the oil light only comes on when the fluid level in the oil pan gets low. My oil pressure sending unit is bad as well, and it acts exactly like you describe. I've driven the car for YEARS like this. Note, the '99+ RX-7s don't even have an oil pressure gauge. It's been replaced by the boost gauge.

My oil gauge light (as described above) is functional still, as there was one time I had an extended interval between oil changes, and I got the oil fluid level low enough to activate the light.

Of course, the disclaimer is: I cannot be held responsible for any consequences that may occur in taking my advice. However, in my strong opinion, I believe your oil pressure is fine, and it's just your oil pressure sender that's giving your gauge a false reading.

For Gods sake drive the car out or set a match to it. I mean take care of yourself first , the sending units on these cars are never accurate. Good luck!!!!!

That points to the oil pressure sending unit. When you have time, try cleaning the contact with the harness connector. If that doesn't take care of it, you'll need to replace the sending unit.

Chic ^^

I would rather have just my engine burn than my whole car. I don't trust the insurance to give me what the car is worth anyways, or at least what it is worth to me and what I have put into it.

My father has a trailer (friends that he borrows often) for his mustangs but with all the ramps and 2x4s in the world my car is still too low to get on that damn thing. We have tried. The trailer was not near me when I had to leave anyways. :uhh:

I didn't take these. I took my car and my ass and got as far away from the flames as I could.

The fire got really close. The night I left I could go the top of the hill near my house and see the flames. I hope everyone has been as fortunate as I have been. Thanks again for the quick replys. My car loves you. ^^
