The only way to get oil in the intercooler is past the turbo seals into the compressor side, or through the PCV tubing, into the intake tubing and through the compressor. Chances of it being the PCV are pretty slim, welcome to the world of needing new turbos. The smoke on startup is likely leakage into the turbine side blown out the exhaust.

Small amounts of oil in the IC do not mean you need new turbos. The way the system is designed, you will always get a small amount of oil into the intake system.

Now, if you are getting large amounts, I would agree with you.

Most turbo cars will spit some oil in to the intake piping. Magazines like Option and YV have articles about cleaning your I/C when this happens so don't worry it is a common thing.

If there is a puddle at the bottom, , or any major build-up I'd be worried. A friend cleaned a Porshe I/C w/ Simple Green, but test a small spot first.

I think that my turbo's are bad because there is a considerable amount of oil in the piping

How much oil are you using? I was talking about needing a litre of oil with every tank of gas in my post above. (My present situation)

I have that same prob. When I was driving my FD every day I had to put at least half a quart every week, depending on how much I drove.
