oil metering pump removal question

ok, if you remove the oil metering pump, you can run synthetic oil because it doesnt get into your combustion chamber. the thing i was wondering is do you have to alway's premix if your oil metering pump is removed?

thanks

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 12:47 AM

Yep.. If there is no more omp premix with some 2cyl is a must.. However. I dont recommend synthetic unless your motor is brand new because sythetic oil tends to find wear spots in seals and leaks.. Synthetic oil doesnt "water log" the seals like dino oil does..

rzograbian 02-18-04 12:52 AM

yea, my motor is new. its not even done yet. i am getting a streetport, new rotor housings and using the Rotary Aviation 2mm 2 peice "stronger" seals........

i dont really like the idea of alway's premixing since i still have the stoc twins but i am putting together my T04R kit as we speak. that going in in a few months in time for Sevenstock 7 !!!!!!

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 12:56 AM

Ok, sythetic it is if you do away with omp. You should premix even if you have it.. The difference it makes inside the motor is amazing. I pulled apart a 13b that was premixed and one that wasnt both with about 40k miles on them and the motor that premixed looked new compared to the non-premix. I run 8oz-16oz 2cyl oil per fillup. Dont spend your money on that protek-r its just jetski premix..

rzograbian 02-18-04 12:59 AM

what ttype do you use, i heard the common one is Xylene (spelling?)....... also, what do you mean by "I run 8oz-16oz 2cyl oil per fillup" ???

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 01:00 AM

At like 7-11 its called "2 Cycle Air Cooled Motor Oil" comes in 8oz bottles for a buck..

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 01:01 AM

I pour 1-2 bottles in per gas fill up..

rzograbian 02-18-04 01:04 AM

which is the full tank or per 10 gallons? if thats the what most people use, i will buy a years supply... i just dont want to look like a chemist at the gas station :) also, is this a better premix than xylene?

rzograbian 02-18-04 01:06 AM

can i PM you tomorrow about the details and instructions about this, its 11pm here....i got school tomorrow!

thanks a lot for your help!

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 01:07 AM

Its about the same stuff, execpt this is alot cheaper.. Xylene I beleive is sythetic which is no good in a combustion chamber anyways.. I use 2 bottles on a full fill up or 1 bottle on a half tank. Just keep track of how much you use.. start keeping a log book because if you end up with too much in your tank it might smoke a lil bit more and could run a little stinky.. Otherwise you will notice a small amount of increase in ash from the exhaust.. very small amount though..

No doubt..

xylene is not a fuel lubricant (like 2stroke oil), it's an octane booster...it's similar to toulene, this is not a premix.....

BTW, you can't remove the OMP with the stock ecu, if you are still using it.

Also, no offense, but it's obvious you don't even completely understand the function of the OMP. What made you decide to remove it?

You can run synthetic oil *with* the omp... why are you removing it?

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 01:31 PM

Synthetic Oil being jetted into the combustion chambers isnt a good idea.. Its not combustable like dino oil is..This has been talked about a million an done times.. do a search and see your self.

Whatever. I'm aware of the debate. Many people run synthetic without any problems. I don't see the big deal. Both dino oil and synth are hydrocarbons and should burn in a similar fashion. And the amount injected is so miniscule that I don't see how it could cause a problem... and many many other people will back me on this.

I've asked many times and have yet to hear of a SINGLE motor failure due to the use of synthetic oil. On the other hand, synthetic is far superior to dino juice in every way -- heat resistance, lubrication, etc. Mobil 1 goes in my car.

Godzilla-T78 02-18-04 01:41 PM

Its as simple as.. call pettit, kdr, pineapple, any of the bigger rotary shops and ask them what type of oil they recommend using.. They all recommend dino over sythetic for a reason.. theyare the ones who get to pull apart the motors after people run both..

paw140 02-18-04 01:48 PM

I have never seen one shread of evidence that running synthetic is bad; everthing is based on what people think *may* happen. Show me something. Give me a reference. Tell me about an engine that failed because they used sythetic oil.

You forgot one, Racing Beat which recommends Royal Purple. RP goes in my FD with OMP.

Ask yourself what the Formula Mazda's use: Synthetic.

BTW Synthetic is better for the turbos:D

formula mazda? As in karts? Only star mazda series uses rotary in the formula cars. those are race built engines that run race fuel that is premixed anyways..

johnisenglish 02-18-04 02:34 PM

Does anyone know what Mazda's now recommending with the RX-8? It seems to me that that would say a lot

(and yes, I'm sure THAT's be covered, too)

rotary-tt 02-18-04 02:35 PM

Same difference just semantics...didn't know about the fuel additives

Have you read the info on flash points and ash content of synthetics?

I'll take my 2% HP gain documented by Racing Beat and the increase in longevity of my turbos over any rumored decrease in engine life.

Where is the list of people who've trashed their engines due to synthetic?

This debate never ends. Just pull your OMP and premix with a non-synthetic 2 stroke oil and you'll sleep better:D

jspecracer7 02-18-04 02:44 PM

mazda came out with a statement a few years ago saying that synthetic oil was okay for rotary engine's even WITH OMP.

rotary-tt 02-18-04 02:56 PM

"Formula Mazda" http://www.aubetamotorsports.com/advantages.asp

Runs min 30 wt Any SYNTHETIC.

Fuel - ERC. No mention of additives http://www.ercracingfuels.com/sxs1.htm

BTW nothing in the RX8 owner's manual about not using synthetic. Just says: SAE 5W20, API SL
