yes, take it out and take a scrapper to the flange at the pan and scrape it off. i would then take a wire brush and brush that area and the oil level sensor aswell. then use black rvt and BOOOM your done. and dont crank the piss out of the bolts. good way to get away using a torque wrench is use a 1/4 drive ratchet and do it with one hand.

Any other options? How about order the correct rubber o-ring from Mazda :)?

For OEM parts, give Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda a call at 888 533 3400. He owns an FD (I've heard he now owns two actually) so you don't have to bother with part #s, just describe to him the part you need. Plus, he offers rx7club discounts and usually ships for free :icon_tup:

I cannot believe some of the backyard fixes being proposed lately....Do it right folks !! Read the manual and buy the correct parts and use the procedures.

^ i was not aware that there was a rubber ring for the sensor. i bought my sensor brand new from ray for 168. there was no rubber ring with it. he always throws the proper gaskets in so i assumed the black rvt was needed. it holds fine theres not a chance of it leaking. i dont know how its a "back yard fix". most volkswagons that i world on believe it or not have machined fit... no gaskets! its one thing if we were talking about an oil pan but a oil level sensor only has a couple bolts. i'll call ray and bust his nuts if he failed to send me a gasket! :)

There is an o-ring, I just ordered one recently. The old one may still be on the pan, mine was.
