Oil Leak at Mocal Cooler
I have developed an oil leak at one of my Mocal oil coolers. Thought at first it was a loose hose connection but it is tight. On closer inspection I see that the leak is originating around the fitting projecting out of the cooler. This one has -10AN male fittings with a 1" hex head at the base of the cooler. Before I tighten too much - does anyone know how these coolers are constructed? Is this a fitting which can be tightened or is it integral with the inside tubes? Or do you think there a break somewhere inside the cooler?
Thank you for your help, Jeff |
Pics would help greatly....

They are made of aluminum so it can be welded to repair. The fitting is welded to the cooler, which is probably where the leak has developed.

This seems to happen w/ Mocals. I replaced mine w/ an Earls that seems to have tougher fittings.

Thanks guys, I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

yea the uluminum really helps so your can tig it thats why i have ebay mocals lol cuz the tig is the best bandaid lol

They tend to leak if you tighten the fittings without putting a wrench on the cooler fitting.

Here is a picture of where the cooler is leaking oil. Kind of hard to see but the oil is leaking out between the sheetmetal bottom of the cooler and the male AN fitting (the 1" hex head right above the black 90.
So if I remove the 90 and try to tighten the male AN fitting will I just damage the cooler more? |

Thanks everyone! I'll pull the cooler and see what gives.
