Oil filler neck cap stuck.. help?

Is it supposed to be insanely difficult to remove? It is all plastic, does it tend to melt? I never see temps over 190F .. i dunno

Mine always seems harder to remove when the engine is hot. I think the plastic expands when warm, and makes it really tight. It will probably come off easily after the car cools off completely.

mine snapped at the neck it was so tight a couple weeks ago

oh god.. yea im trying to get it off.. it is completely cool at the moment, i tried to heat it up just barely with a heat gun (warm to the touch not hot) to see if it would expand just enough but no dice.. I am trying at the moment (its 8:30 EST)

I've had metal ones seize but never the plastic ones. You may want to replace the o-ring after you do remove it. You could try one of those plumbers pipe wrenches that use a strap. You may be able to find something similar at harbor frieght for less. Otherwise you could try liquid wrench (or similar) with a straw but i'm not sure how eefective it would be spraying upwards and then use a rag for grip on the cap.

thanks for the suggestions

fixed!

Alright .. the tool of the hour is "Vise Grips"!. I went top down on it and gripped where the finger grooves are. I clamped it down and turned like hell and it magically came off.
now i gotta go soak my fingers in ice cuz they hurt from previous methods!

i hope someone sees this if they have trouble, haha

get cap and plug pliers for aircraft or something for plumbing (like a strap wrench), i stole one from work and you can use it for your oil filter too :-D

Yah, the oil filler cap can be hard to remove sometimes. Especially, if you have the OEM strut bar and the GReddy elbow/IC in the way. It may seem troublesome...but if you remove these two parts...you get a lot more hand manuvering-area to work with and removing the cap will be so much easier w/o much effort.

Just remember next oil change or whatever reason workign around oil cap...to not over torque the oil cap again. :)
