oil explosion after vac hose job
After just finishing the vac hose job I started the car and gave it a test run while it was still on the ramps. Shortly after starting I noticed a little leak of oil coming down around the downpipe/manifold gasket, but I couldn't see where it was coming from. Along with this was a small exhaust leak, only noticible because of some atf smoke coming from around the downpipe/manifold/turbo area. It was idling fine though, so I gave it some gas by pulling on the throttle cable at the throttle body and then splat! I had exxon valdez under my car. This just happened a little while ago I haven't finished investigating but the oil burst from somewher around the oil cooler, under the headlight area on the drivers side.
Anybody have any idea what vacuum hose stuff I could have hooked up wrong to cause that? I didn't break open any part of the oil system(other than remove/reinstalling the oil filler neck and hoses) in this project, and I really don't believe its just a coincidence that some oil line picked such a 'convinient' time to explode. regards, littlecat '94 silver touring w/downpipe, fluidyne rad, ast, act clutch, and rb aluminum flywheel |
also, on this same 'project' I installed the fluidyne, but unless I really stressed something putting it in, I don't see how that could cause an oil explosion.

found it - one of the oil cooler quick disconnects popped.
