Oil drain flange streaming!!

Hey guys
So I was ready to start my car for the first time Filled all the fluids and checked for leaks under the car This is just filling fluid, no oil pressure in the motor And she was pissing oil like she drank a pitcher of beer As you'll see in the pic, the culprit is pretty clearly the rear oil drain flange on the block I'm using an aftermarket unit so that I could put an AN fitting on it Now the leak isn't coming from the fitting, it's coming from the seal of the flange to the block...the flange came with a 3M gasket that I put on, but now I'm wondering if maybe that's just the cheap stuff and I should be using something else that's better, maybe the gasket+RTV or something Any help would be much appreciated on what I should use to seal that Also I put a pic of the flange I'm using, if I shouldn't be using this because its wrong please let me know, I lined up this flange with the stock extension thing from the twins and it lines up perfectly so I figured it would be fine... Are you sure it is coming from the rear drain line? The oil level isn't that high IIRC otherwise it wouldn't work well as a drain. If the fitting and flange are good quality and the seal is the metal type i would just make sure it is installed correctly including the AN fitting.

i was just thinking the same thing actually...but it was very clearly coming from the flange
is the level supposed to be that high?!?! i could have made a real bone head move and not checked if i already had oil in there...def. going to double check that but either way, about the seal...its not a metal gasket, its like a paper type gasket but about 1mm thick...i read somewhere today that those are supposed to be soaked prior to installation??? if someone could clear these things up for me it would be much appreciated!! |
Drains shouldn't have pressure,so that gasket is crap,or the bolts are loose.
You dont know how many times I run into making gaskets for stuff.I replaced copper crush washers with gaskets to get by temporarily. If you find out it is the gasket,when you go to get one or the RTV you mentioned,Grab an Assortment pack of gasket paper.It will save you,trust me. |
Permatex the right stuff 1 minute gasket, let it cure and be done with it. There shouldn't be any oil coming out, oil level is to high.

that was me being stupid and over excited to start the car then, i guess it was a blessing in disguise!!
i didnt check the oil level before i started filling oil because i was positive i had drained the motor to do the oil cooler upgrade. just gona drain it completely now, get some proper permatex and try it all again whats the best permatex to use in that specific location? |
i'm guessing this is what i should be using to make the gasket:

No, not the ultra black, that shears too easily. Get the Gasket Makers : Permatex® the Right Stuff® 1 Minute Gasket

Either way it shouldn't be leaking. Make sure you clean it really well and change the gasket. You shouldn't need to use any permatex truthfully..but once it's nice clean and dry it wouldn't hurt. Remember...too much oil is just as bad as too little

this is the exact reason why i didnt clean anything lol because i'm notorious for spilling and leaking things everywhere trust me there will be huge amounts of cleaning once shes all up and running |
