Oil contamination - what is it?? pics
First post and Im hoping somebody can help me!!
During my rebuild I have been finding bits of contamination in my oil system and have no idea what it is. I have found some bits in the oil pick up I also found a piece in the oil jet for the rear rotor, it was wedged against the ball bearing and restricting oil flow hugely.... Here is a pic of it wedged: http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3578/dsc00171qa8.jpg And a couple of various pics of the hard plastic pieces: http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/9093/dsc00182oj1.jpg http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/9823/dsc00177uy7.jpg http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4268/dsc00180ch1.jpg Oil and filter change was carried out about 700miles prior to engine going pop. 30k miles on the engine. stock twins with aftermarket exhaust and filters Anybody got suggestions??? I am going to blow out all the oil lines etc but would really like to know the source Thanks J |
Looks like injector diffusers to me... Then engine is done? Your tearing it apart now?

I have new injectors anyways.... Why do you think the injector diffusers would break up like that? there is only 30k on them.... Yes the engine is stripped apart. The engine DET'd on the rear rotor causing one of the apex seals to stick I recon the poor oil feed may have helped DET to occur Also there was a lot of scoring marks on the rotor housings and rotors even though the apex seal did not break up Anybody else got some suggestions?? |
I wont be able to check the injectors till this weekend, But if anybody has any other suggestions I would really appreciate it!
Really want to get this sorted!! Thanks J |
And how is the injector diffuser going to get into the oil system??
|
The question is... how did your engine blow?? low compression or did your engine seize?

Pictures of engine failure below:
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5297/dsc00084yk2.jpg Detonation on Rear Rotor, the Apex seal did not break up. It was pushed back by the rotor material causing loss of compression Another pic: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7295/dsc00113zz4.jpg I think DET occured because of boost Spike. The car was de-cated, I only had the car for a few months and the heat shield was put back on so never noticed the straight through pipe Also the restricted oil to the rear rotor wouldnt have helped the situation. Im new to rotaries so still learing here!! Thanks guys!! |
