Oil Color (same color as Cardboard)
 

Hey all,

Well after searching for a post that talks about the color of oil and having no luck, I figured I would make a post.

So here is the back story. I changed my plug wires, car would start but sounded like it was definitely running on one rotor. So I got under the hood and checked all the leads one was loose (No. 1 Trailing) so I fussed with it and managed to get it to lock back on tried again and still making the same sound. So I pulled the plugs and what do ya know fouled and maybe never changed lol. While i was under the hood I checked the oil, it is a very light creamy color looks like the same color as cardboard with a nice frothing top. Now the froth makes sense seeing as there would be some condensation in the engine with the temp changes but the color has me a little concerned. Would gas dilution in the oil cause it to change to this color?

I am going to change it either way as I have done the internal steam clean and I just bought the car and want to have all the numbers in order and to my standards. Should I look at draining the oil coolers as well? or change the oil drive it for a few kms then change it again.

So to summarize:
What color should the oil be? (I am thinking black but and new to fuel dilution)
Just change the oil?
Or Flush the oil system?

just change the oil it should be black.

Change the oil and then check it again after a few miles. If the oil is foamy just in the oil filler neck, that is normal from condensation. If the oil in the pan is foamy, you may have another (worse) problem.

Ok i am going to change the oil tonight, i have the old oil out. I hope there is nothing else wrong, I want to get to enjoy this car! I know there was some small water droplets in the oil filler neck but that was just condensation I hope.

So this color is normal? (Hah colour has a red line under it color does not subtle CDN to US spell check lol)

This has been coming up frequently as of late.

Lots of new FD owners perhaps?

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but if the oil is creamy, and looks kinda like a coffee colored milkshake, youre block might be cracked.

basically that happend to one of my bad rebuilds in my rx8 and coolant got into the oil and created a creamy milkshake.....

lets just hope thats not the case for you.... =/

Although I kinda doubt thats the case, it is a possibility.

Change oil and take notice of how much coolant is in the radiator. Once you drive it around for 10-15 minutes go ahead and check both oil and coolant for odd color/consumption.

oh, might i add that i was adding 1 gallon of coolant per week... (I was a noob back then and had no clue what that ment lol)
