oil change nightmare??
 

so i went in for a routine oil change today and came away shaking in anger. normally i would do it myself, but i have been busy with work. i dropped my FD off this morning and when i came to pick it up, it felt almost like a misfire in the engine. i still dont know what is wrong with it and one of my buddies thinks it might have had too much oil put into it and then run. ive never had an engine blow a seal on me before so i dont know what it feels like, but i do know that the engine is almost impossible to idle( if it does it is at like 800rpm for like 10 sec at most) and when you give it any gas it feels like i have about 500ft/lbs of torque with how much the car and engine shakes. thats when i cut the ignition and im going to let it sit till the morning at the shop at which time im going to talk to their manager. if anyone knows what this is or what it might possibly be, please post your suspicions. thanks.

The dumbasses probably knocked the hose off the MAP sensor. It's practically right above the oil filter.

eh, i wish i was in the bay.... im from there but right now im stationed in Hawaii with the army. i need to change my location. lol oops. appreciate the info, i will look into it in the morning.

Yes, sounds like that vacuum line got knocked off. Did the same thing when I was installing my spark plug wires and took off the line to the MAP sensor.

I hate being cynical....but it's happened before.
If it's not the boost sensor, could somebody have taken it for a little "test" drive before you picked it up?

I dont know how anyone can bring their car to an oil change spot, especially our cars.

It literally takes less than 10 minutes to do. Or a bit more if you take your time and let the oil completely drain out.

I agree with the "test drive", its very hard NOT to fool around with rare cars.

When i was at audi, i took advantage of driving cars i always wanted to drive. S4's, the RS4. I didnt go for like a 2 hour drive but i would take it to like the local mcdonalds as a way of "testing my work" lol.

And from what i experienced and seen, i would say yeah your car got beaten up a bit.

Hope it's the MAP sensor. My car was taken for a joyride back in 1996 by the bozos at a Mazda dealership. It required a NY State inspection (no road test required). The service manager and I looked and agreed on the mileage when I dropped it off and when I pick it up, 6 miles more. He didn't do shit and could not have cared less.

Unfortunately, that can put you between a rock and a hard place for service/repairs. You have to either trust the shop will not give some little snot 17 year old access to the keys or you have to do all the work yourself. If you actually do something else for a living and are not trained/experienced in all aspects of our cars then you get to be ridiculed for asking questions on this Forum.

Yeah I hear that. It's taken me about a year to get comfortable taking this thing apart and doing the repairs myself, and I used to repair aircraft in the Corps.

Sometimes people do get bashed a bit here but generally only those that don't take the time to search, obviously haven't read the FAQ's and put some effort into the research. I mean how often does someone come on here and ask how to make the car "reliable" :lol:

That's one of my suspcions too. Let's hope they didn't blow an apex seal, or something.
Let's hope it's the MAP sensor, but if not I'd be screaming lawsuit.

I always write down the mileage when I take any of my cars in someplace. I also tell them no "test" drives without me being in the car. I've had that happen with other cars. You're sitting in the waiting room then you see your own car come out of garage and drive off down the road. Who knows what they do when they're out of sight?

thanks for all the ideas guys. it was the map sensor after all. i made sure i had the milage written down before i dropped it off and i checked it after i picked it up. only a 10th of a mile had been put on it. normally i would not ever drop it off and let someone else do it, but as i have been very busy just getting back from Iraq i have not been able to do it. i guess this is one of those lessons that you learn, "dont trust civillian mechanics who work on military posts." nothing at all against civillians, but when you are going to get paid regardless and are backed by a 2 star general, you can pretty much do whatever you want. car runs well not, but just in case im going to go by mazda and have them do a diagnostics check on it. i wish there were rotary shops in hawaii. hell back home i live litterly 5 miles away from SR Motorsports, 25 miles from ricks rotary and within 100 miles of almost a dozen reputable rotary shops..... ive said it before and ill say it again. get your shit together hawaii..... supply and demand screams for a rotary shop.
