Oil cap and milky looking liquid
 

I bought my 94 FD last year in August and went on a 7 month deployment. At that time the car had some minor issues with fuses and wiring. I pretty got that taken care of.

Now the problem is I was checking oil the other day and it was normal. I checked the top of the cap because I was once told a long time ago that if there is anything on it other than oil then there is something wrong. I saw some milky looking fluid in the thread of the oil cap. So I wiped it off and I drove the car to work and back (120 miles round trip). I don't normally do that but my pulley went bad and my buddy has a shop and I keep all my extra parts there.

I get to the shop and I told him about it. not a big rotary guy but he said something is wrong if that is happening. We checked the oil cap again and sure enough the milky white fliud was there.

I checked the fuel pump and it is fine. The only other thing I can think of is some sort of seal. The engine has about miles on it. Any suggestions?

It's just condensation in the oil filler neck. If you don't have any other issues, just make sure to change your oil on a regular basis. It's not uncommon for this to occur without their being a real problem.

Its the rotary midget jacking off on your engine when you are not looking. There is a bounty out for his head just so you know. Lol

I did have an oil leak, but I have taken car of that. It would drop about 10-20 drop of oil over 2 hours period after I drove the car. MAZDA is expensive. Hell 7's are expensive. Thanks guys.

So glad I found this thread, I saw the same thing on my car today while I was doing an oil change and I freaked out. If I saw that on my old BMW it meant big $, all hail the search button!

Do you guys think it's worth the time to remove the oil filler neck and clean up all that crud? Or will it just build righ back up again?

The condensation is formed when the car is used for short trips and is not allowed to boil out the water vapor inside the motor.

I got the same problem n my 04 rx8..it's bone stock..not only my oil cap,when I opened the dip stick I saw the same white stuff..& I changed the oil right away..& drove the car. But still having the same problem..I also think it's the seals??? Help pls????

While this this not an RX-8 forum. That is completely normal for ANY rotary for the same reasons. I believe Mazda sells a modified dipstick version for the RX-8 if you don't like seeing it there but it doesn't get rid of it fully (visually, its still really there). Really it doesn't do anything and if you get your car full hot, it will go away on its own, that is all it is.

It makes me wonder if this occurs more often on engines without a PCV valve. Mazda eliminated the PCV valve on the '95 FD and never put one in the Rx-8 either.

Since removing my PCV valve it's solved my issue with the milky white crap underneath the oil cap.

Seems to be a pretty common problem, I know I freaked the first time I saw.
