OEM White RX-7 FD Gauges?

Hey all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum section. Anyone know if the OEM white RX-7 FD gauges (1999-2002 I think) are for sell anywhere online? I checked JT Imports but I don't see them (I e-mailed to check if he could find them). Thanks in advance.

Here's a pic of it:

You could always order the gauge cluster itself from Mazda, may be a PITA to get it though. I bet Jason at jt-imports could get it for you though.
Also, if i'm not mistaken, theres a boost gauge in that cluster in place of the oil pressure. So you may have to do something about that.

all i want is the tach. i like how the needle points down at rest

tookwik 12-20-04 02:08 PM

that could look goofy if you had all black gauges then one big white one

Yah, there is a boost gauge in place of the oil pressure. Just received some Japanese RX-7 brochures and has a pic of the new white gauges along with the available packages for the car (Touring X, RS-R, etc). Do you know of other overseas JDM/OEM import shops that ship to America? Thanks for the info.

Nah man, not anybody that is as reputable as jt-imports. There are some guys on here that occasionally get good parts from japan. I think fd3boost.com is one but it doesn't look like his site is up right now.

true, but there are ways around that

DaleClark 12-20-04 02:32 PM

I do believe they also had a black tach with the 0 at the 6 o'clock position, if that's the main thing you're going for.

The other thing to realize is that all 96+ RX-7's had green interior lighting instead of red/amber .... the 99+ 6' o'clock tachometer will be green backlighted instead of red/amber as well... not sure if there are aftermarket JDM gauge backings that would light up the same red as all pre-96 FD's.

Why don't you just rotate the stock gauge so it points straight down? It wouldn't look any more goofy than anything else you are proposing...

this is not true. some of the 99 guages are green (like the black ones)... but the white ones are backlit w/ amber.

how are you at on the spot conversions from metric to english? Hope you paid attention in math class to tell the KPH into MPH for the officer when you get pulled:D

Mine are not OEM but NR made these to replace the faces on the stock gauges. This is not as easy as it sounds. As a matter of fact it might be the hardest thing to do on an FD besides port and rebuild a motor. KD rotary did these for me and it took him about 10 tries to get it right. also broke the tach and had to replce it because of the pin on the needles have to be removed and are near impossible to replace right. Also the face plates dont indent like the stock ones do so inless you have an attention to detail like "Rain Man" then your bound to get something wrong or break a gauge.

ZoomZoom,

That is a nice finish you have there. Yeah, I'm still comptemplating if it's worth the effort and $$$ to get the OEM if all possible. They do look nice. I hope to hear from JT-Imports sometime soon. I'm asking because I'm about to buy an aPexi boost gauge and not sure which color to get to match up. =/ I don't have the FD yet but this week, going to check out a CYM so we'll see how that goes. The white gauges is a down-the-road purchase if I decide to go white or keep stock black.

I do not think I would do this mod again after seeing what a catastrophy it wound up becoming.
Your seeing a finished product but it took probably 30 hours or more to finally get it right and a 500 dollar tach from mazda as well. KD rotary will not do these Gauge faces anymore after doing my car.

Was it simply swapping the faces that gave you guys such a hard time? Or was it something more that I am not understanding? I have swapped gauge faces in fd3s more than once and even with the re-calibration it's a fairly simple job that shouldn't take longer than 1-2 hours. I have to assume you guys ran into some problems with the newer OEM gauges?

Is it possible to install just the tach meter on?

I got a hell of a deal on some defi gauges that were in stock and they only had white gauges so I've been wanting to change the factory blacks to white, but every kit seems to look like shit or ricy and yours are JUST right. You have a link to where I can purchase those?!

yeah its a pretty big deal, and no one will make the dished tach faces coustom unless you do a large number of gauges. i had a thread a year ago, where i was going to have 99+ white or black gauge faces coustom made.... they were going to have standard US units, but with the 99+ font, while retaining the (although useless) temp gauge, as well as having the 6-oclock = 0-RPM tach position (basically you just attach the needle (with a gauge face printed that way) in a diffent rotation. i was going ot have people send me their gauges, and i was going to change the faces, and reattach the needles in the proper calibration.

anyway, long story short not enough people were interested, and i got worried about loosing $$ on the project so i bailed at the last minute.

the conversion isnt that bad, and I would look into Mazdaspeed/RE-Amemiya/Feed/Knightsports gauges too.
