OEM TT fuel pump capabilities

I currently utilize a 3rd gen RX-7 TT fuel pump in my Turbo Galant. I'm finding that I'm getting knock when I'm maxed out on my fuel correction. I was curious how far your guys have modded your cars while still using the stock TT fuel pump?

Thanks, in advance for your input.

"Underground" <-- someone already had that name on this board though!

I switched mine out when I was at around 300 rwhp. Most guys seem to do it at about that level, I am sure you will get more input.

I'm still waiting for more of that input :D

It was one of the mods I did when I did the full exhaust and the ecu upgrade. In terms of whp I would go with what Goodfellasfd3s said. Anything over that you are risking running lean.

.50 trim T3/T4 .63 a/r on the hot side, Ross 8.5:1 pistons, crower rods, knife edged crank, 720's, S-AFC, VPC with 660 chip, VRS stainless 3" Downpipe, Borla XR-1 muffler, RX7 TT fuel pump, Stage 3 cylinder head from BJ's cylinder head, crower spring kit, 1mm oversized ferrea valves, ARP head and main studs, rear mounted Red Top Optima, MSD DIS-2, Aeromotive FPR and B&M gauge, ACT2600, Galant VR-4 trans with Shep racing rebuild and 4 spider gear center diff

A list of my main modifications. With the car tuned, it should put out more than 300 whp easily. Possibly close to 400. I'm having problems going lean, over 5k rpm. I suspect the fuel pump as a possibility

It's really hard to compare it to something on a piston engine. Your whole setup is different from a FD fuel system. You're probably running different fuel pressure. I assume you're AWD?

4DrSleeper 10-12-04 10:02 PM

No, I know. It's really not comparable. I used to have a 13b 1g. Didn't last, though. I was just trying to get an idea of how much they drink, by comparison.

this site has some info regarding flow rates of various pumps including the RX-7

http://www.stealth316.com/2-fuelpumpguide.htm#j3

btw I hit 321 rwhp at around 86% injector duty cycles with stock pump and injectors...approx 13 psi

Well according to cam @ pettit racing stock pump is better than a walbro 255l

Cool, thanks.... just out of curiosity, is it true that if you get any knock, it ruins your seals?

He would be misinformed then.
