oem honda oil filter on my 7
1 Attachment(s)
it was time for an oil change and i work at a acura dealership, so i took the oem mazda filter off and it looked the same size as the acura ones but just a bit shorter. so i put the acura one on and it seems to work fine. any downsides to using a non-mazda filter???

AHHH HONDUH!!!
j/k well if its smaller thats the only downside I would see. Have you taken the acura's ones apart and seen the insides? are they good at filtering stuff out? if you. then sounds good. |
Does the Honda filter have an anti-backflow valve?
Does anyone know the maximum partcle sizes of either filter? |
I use the JDM Integra Type-R filters in my integras. They are made by hamp(honda aftermarket parts) they have the spring to prevent backflow. Here is a great link http://www.inlinefour.com/honhamoilfil.html

Oil filters have different pressures that the pressure bypass valve opens at. I would check what the Mazda requires and compare with the Honda. Other than that all you could do is cut the filters open and compare surface area of filtering element more is generally better.

I use a Purolator Pure One MX-6 filter on mine, it's about twice the regular size of the Miata/FD oil filter. Works great.

i went to kragen and that oil filter works for wrx's, rx-7's, honda's, and alot other cars, so i think it should be fine. plus many of my friends with boosted integras use the oem ones and they never had a problem
