Odomoter not working ?
The digital odometer/trip is not working. Is this built into the speedo or is the wiring for it seperate? Could it be a loose wire or something else fixable or am I looking at replaceing the whole unit?
Any input would be much appreciated. Havnt pulled the dash apart yet but am planning to in the next few days. Thanks, Sam |
I dont think it could be a loose wire and I think it is all together but I dont remember
there are like 4 connectors on the back of the gauges that each have tons of wires on them I'm having problems with lots of my gauges too have fun :) |
Thanks. Just was hoping it might be cheap fun and not expensive fun hehe.

your car isnt recording milage ?? whats the problem then :p: i had same problem.. you might have a "cold Joint" the solder. expands and contracts in cold and warm temps.. try resoldering the connector to your odometer.. you will see which wires it is when you take your cluster out.. and if it is not that... you have to replace the whole cluster.. you cant get just a odoemter.i went through all of this b4.. a new cluster from mazda.. is well over 1k your best bet is to look for one with close milage to your car.. i got mine *within 5k miles of my milage* for $100 sooo good luck!!

I'm gonna be rebuilding my engine soon. I figure it's almost as good as new so, why not reset the odometer to compliment the new rebuild. Is there anyway to do this? I recently got my fd so i'm not thinking about selling it. Anyone? PM. Thanks.

Why would I get snagged driving "my" low-mile fd? Heehee. Seriously, i'm not planning on selling it. It just makes me quiver knowing that someday maybe 3 rebuilds into the long future (example) my odometer is gonna be reading like 230,000 mi. Just would like have that feeling of a new car/engine with a new mile count. So there's no way of doing this legally, say by letting CarFax or the DMV know?

Dude this is a bad idea trust us
Even if you really have good intentions it just doesn't make sense If you want to know how many miles are on the new motor write the mileage down when you get the rebuild. Or you can press the button on the dash and reset it and start recording the miles. Everyone always thinks they are going to keep their fd forever and they start doing weird shit to it and then they have to sell it and it's a pain to get it back to normal. |
When my OD went out, I found a replacement, but it only had 70k on it. My Rotorhead Dude (Jeff @ Maztech in Tampa) found a guy down the street from him that had an electronic device that could roll the OD forward. So I had him reset the used OD to my correct mileage.
I plan on keeping the RX-7 for a long time, so I decided it was worth the cost to keep it as accurate as possible, especially since I had just replaced the engine several months before. Good luck on your rebuild. |

Great! So now I have to find someone across the street with the "device" thingy and roll back the time! LOL. Well, it didn't hurt to ask. Sheeeesh. Thanks for the info guys.

my odometer is weird too
my odometer works (records mileage) but it's lit sooo dim that i can't really see it unless i can get the light to show on it just right. i don't know how the thing's put together, but any thoughts would be helpful. not a big deal tho.
