odometer question

I had the car sitting for a while now about 6 months, since i work in Afghanistan. When I came back home on leave I reconected the battery and started it.It was all fine.Just one thing was the belts were making squieling noises.Since i was home for only 4 days I brought my car to the mechanic to get them changed.
I cant remember for sure or not but the next day i noticed my digital odometer reading was out, and fugured it was a fuse.I didnt get a chance to go back to the mechanic, but i dont see why that problem will effect the odometer reading.Does anyone have any idea whats wrong?
All the input will help.
Thanks

yeah, it would not seems that the two are interconnected. However, if only your odometer is out, and everything else works fine, i would have to say that your cluster is burnt. The only thing i could tell you to check is the white connector under the passenger side dash. there are two white connectors, one high up in the dash by the engine harness boot, and the other is a bit to the left. the one to the left, there is a black wire in it that is the ground for the gauge pod. Check resistance in the ground, or simply get a wire, stick it in the back of the connector at the black wire, ground it, and see if your odometer displays. let me know.

It's quick, but expensive. Directions are HERE. Call Ray (check the FAQ) for a new odometer. You can have the odometer corrected or legally not.

I thought the net was still 'down' over there?

The exact thing has happened to me, I searched the archives and found this thread. My car has been sitting for about 4 months with a dead battery, I charged it up and gave it a start. . . everything is fine except my digital odometer is not there. Any more ideas?

It's not related to the battery being out or dead. If you tried to boost the car or charge the battery while connected to the car there is a slight possibility that would introduce enough electrical noise to damage the odo.

I've also seen the bulb that makes the odometer light up go out. Make sure to check the simple things first.
