Notes on engine pull
I pulled the motor yesterday. The time it took to pull was less than 1 hour but the time to prep it for the engine pull took about 6 hours. We did it with the tranny attached.
These are notes of what I remembered as being problems: 1. take digital pictures of areas you're working on at each major stage; 2. de pressurize fuel line before starting job; 3. spray penetrating oil on the oil cooler connectors, use a dental pick to remove the clip; 4. it's easier to plug the drain on the p/s reservoir and remove the whole p/s pump. Four nuts must be removed before the p/s pump can be removed. If you've only 3 nuts, look for the 4th. 5. I don't know how people can remove the a/c and leave it with the car. I just removed the a/c line and out it came with the engine. 6. The wiring harness has to go through the firewall, remove the ABS heat shield but not the ABS. Spray WD-40 on the rubber grommet and a pry bar to pop the grommet off. |
Good to know if I ever pull my engine. But hopefully that won't be for a looong time.

Good info :D

what's the deal with that wiring harness anyway? there's no plug on the engine side? that always seemed weird to me.

Why did you have problems with the AC? I just unbolted it and left it there...
Here's a really good thread: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ghlight=engine |
