act s/s and pettite 9lb flywheel: rx7store. I love mine...it grabs so much harder than stock
|
act s/s here
|
i have had ACT clutches in my last three project cars and have had no problems whatsoever. mahjik is right, a big majority of the FDs here have them and its rare for them to mess up. most people that have had problems with it in the past usually find out it wasnt the clutch.
Dont have a lightened flywheel yet so i cant help you there. good luck |

Ive heard bad things about ACT as well. Anyone has first hand experience with the ACT compared to other clutches?

ACT all the way, I have heard a lot of bad things about centerforce.

So no opinions on the stock clutch? Has anyone put a new stock clutch on a modded FD?
With the price of a stock Mazda OEM clutch kit at $210.00 shipped I'm surprised no one is using it. If you say that your act clutch holds so much better than a stock clutch, how many miles did the stock clutch have vs. your new act clutch. For sure anything over 325-350 hp range would need a stronger clutch, no argument there. My car has an act clutch in it, but my sons FD needs a new clutch and the Mazda one seems a very logical choice. |
Act is good clutch, I ran it until it died.. I run a OS Giken Twin plate now..
|
Cant go wrong with ACT s/s with your power level, a lot of single turbo guys are still using that same clutch( S/S) and it seems to be holding up pretty good.

The clutch 'disk' will not have a big impact on slip when the clutch is engaged (eg flooring it in gear). The pressure plate is responsible for preventing the clutch from slipping when it is engaged.
Changing the disk will effect power transfer during the transition from disengaged to engaged, but from what I have been told, will not have much of an impact on in gear holding power, unless the disk is worn. I spoke to a rep at ACT last spring about the merits of their 6 puck vs a street strip disk. He said the 6 puck is less progressive, but holds up better to drop clutch launches. Interestingly, the rep also said that the Street strip disk will outlast the 6-puck if the two are engaged in a more gradual fashion. The rep noted that the SS disk is comparable to the stock Mazda disk. Based on the above I think the best combination for high power street cars is the ACT extreme pressure plate with a SS or stock disk. |
had a 6 puck and it blew up on me :(. now i have a stock one. need a better pressure plate tho. but the othere clutch felt liek it held more. engagement felt faster as well.

Few weeks back I did a search. I wanted to keep it streetable. Couldn't find anyone saying anything bad about ACT S/S. ;)

This may be due to other mechanical reasons, I suppose. It shows no sign of slipping, just feels a little "strained" at times. We'll see how much longer it lasts. And then the ACT S/S and lightweight flywheel go in. |
i bought the ACT s/s clutch from rx7store.
it has the Heavy duty pressure plate and a street strip disk. i havent had no problems with it, its ment to be good for 402ft/lbs, its a good clutch i Defiantly would recommend it. have a look http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=206&1=241&3=8 shaQ |

Exedy triple or twin plate clutches.
Engages like a street car and holds like a race clutch. |
