not putting turbo heat shields, is it bad?

anyone has any experience with that?

RxSeven1 03-09-04 07:00 PM

i wouldnt do it considering the amout of heat the turbos put off. With all the effort to keep the engine bay cool and fab heat shields to keep intake temps down why run with out the heat shields.

turbojeff 03-09-04 07:13 PM

Keep the heat shields. The engine wiring harness runs not too far above them. Heat rises...

rx7will 03-09-04 08:09 PM

Why would you not want to run the heat shields?

BRADYMAHONEY 03-09-04 08:23 PM

Use the shields.

puma 03-09-04 09:06 PM

well the thing is that i put everything back and forgot to install them.

Should i tear everything apart or just leave it like that?

that is a lot of work to remove everything.

Oh and not my car by the way :D

skunks 03-09-04 10:17 PM

just wrap yoru downpipe

widebody2 03-09-04 11:49 PM

I didn't use one for 5k miles running 17lbs. Didn't notice anything. I was also using BNR stage 2s and they might stay a bit cooler than stockers

Sesshoumaru 03-10-04 01:05 AM

turbos less heat
engine bay more heat

your call

I like them off.

fstrnyou 03-19-04 03:51 PM

The problem with that is that the the stock turbo manifolds are cast iron, and cast iron is one of the best metals for heat retention, so after a hard run all that heat from the 1700* exhaust is held in that cast iron, causing it to just bake the crap out of the wiring harness. Keep the shields!

Sesshoumaru 03-19-04 05:36 PM

bah

you need to reloom the harness anyway

my FC one is holding up really well and it's been over a year.

I would keep them on for the abs and other stuff but i let the turbos run free.

luneytune 03-19-04 07:57 PM

LOL. I did the same efing thing. So I modified it a bit to get it in there and do some good, that was 50Kkm ago, seems to be fine, oh I also have an HKS downpipe.

i did the same as you, but you can easily put it on from underneith the car. will take you approximately 20 mins w/ a cigarette break to complete.

spekdah 03-19-04 11:52 PM

ask the columbia space shuttle crew

wylie 03-19-04 11:54 PM

Have you ever had to buy a new harness?

$$$$$$$

Sesshoumaru 03-20-04 12:45 AM

na I just reloom

The shitty FD I got had nasty connectors so I just bought a jspec for 150 and reloomed. Better than new with the resistor mod.
