normal water temp readings on comander?

what is the normal water temps suppose to be on the commander? at what temps should i be concerned??

i just drove around and i got up to 92 w/o boosting.... its been a while since i drove my car so idk if this is normal or not so im beginning to get concerned... i have a koyo rad with the greddy fmic... im getting since the fmic is cock blocking the rad my temps are a little high?

idk im just paranoid to poping this engine......... help!?

RX7 RAGE 07-09-09 10:10 PM

I see 80-88 on my car. 92 is normal though.

muibubbles 07-09-09 10:40 PM

mind you i have a halfbridge port and 20 miles on the car

Wargasm 07-09-09 10:42 PM

The temp will vary mostly depending on how hard your are boostin and how fast you are going.

Boost = heat = goes up

Driving slowly or stopped = no airflow = goes up

92 is not anything to worry about. My car is about 85 when fully warmed up, but it can easily pop up over 90 if I get in some traffic even if I am driving non-aggressively.

muibubbles 07-09-09 11:06 PM

ALSO im just worried cuz i didnt ahve a hood on and it was COOOOL out... so i would think it would be coolerr....

arghx 07-10-09 12:03 AM

The stock thermostat opens around 82 C and is fully open at 95. Anything within that range I would consider "safe" but the 85-87 range would be nice

muibubbles 07-10-09 12:10 AM

thanks for the confirmation!

ps your avatar is halarious.. i was actually thinking of plates today and timebomb was one of them hahaha (im on like my 7th? rotary)

FD3S2005 07-10-09 02:00 AM

fully open at 95? my car doesnt really hit the 90s anymore, even in this Florida weather.. i dont see anything above 86 while cruising.. i used to always be in the 90s tho before i got a new thermo

here's the story on that... I went to the NC DMV website to see if that was available, and they gave me that as a preview pic. I went to the DMV to request it and the 60 year old southern ladies were like "uhhh.... bomb? you can't have anything about violence" and then it occurred to me that nobody knows what an rx-7 is and nobody really gets the joke

muibubbles 07-10-09 08:39 AM

hahahahahaha very true, halarious none the less!

ProjectD 07-10-09 11:54 AM

I was seeing 80-83 degrees without boosting and no undertray in Oklahoma summer. But I was running Evans npg+

money 07-10-09 12:01 PM

mine alway stay at 87.. ( completely stock. )everything.. but now.. it is in a process of overhaul.

Supernaut 07-10-09 12:26 PM

Don't the fans fully turn on @ 105 not 95? I would say 92 is a good temp. I like to keep mine 90 - 95 by usually turning the AC on if its out of that range but even thats ok. I would get worried if it approaches 100+. Even then its not to big of a deal. I think 110 - 120 is when things get dangerous and its time to turn of the engine right?

I find that under boost my temps are very good, air and wtr. Problems occur when driving slow or in traffic, especially if it was after boosting.

Bubs Im surprised you asked this. You're usually a very knowledgeable guy!

I had the same problem before but never 105º, usually 99-100º. Do the fan mod and just keep the fans on while driving. Since I did the fan mod I've been seeing 85-87ºC during the daytime heat. The highest I've seen has been 92º but I was in LIE rush hour traffic, not moving at all.

WaachBack 07-10-09 11:05 PM

85ish

And Im in Hawaii where it is hot and humid.

FDarerex7 07-10-09 11:36 PM

I leave my A/C on and it stays at 85. If I turn the A/C off, it gets up to 95 in da Hawaii heat!

another way to do it if you have a pfc, is to find some one with a dattalogit and change when the fans come on

RotaryRocket93 07-11-09 01:59 AM

^^^^ To the poster above. Your saying that I can set my fans to come on by using the datalogit to program my power fc? I never knew about this. So i can do this instead of doing a modification to the temp switch correct?

bewtew 07-11-09 07:36 AM

do your self a favor and replace the fans.. they are crap not mention they are about 15 years old and they are very slow. get your self a set of good fans and you will not have to worry about temps going up like that.

RotaryRocket93 07-11-09 08:07 AM

bewtew, got a part number for a "good" set of fans or a website?

^Disagree. They work just fine. I've heard of few issues with the stock fans. The overwhelming majority of overheating issues are with ducting, radiators, t-stats, hoses, relays etc. And there are owners out there that are running/tracking pretty high hp motors on the stock fans with no issues.

Yes you can datalog the threshold temps for fans. If you don't have a datalogit..or access to one, you can buy the 89-91 FC thermoswitch.

To the OP: If you want to switch to EVANS and AI that's fine. But I'd try to find out why your running hot with the present set-up first so you don't mask a symtom of something that could be more serious.

Thats what i do. I dont remember NOT turning on my fans when i reach like 190F. Its just a natural habit of mine now when i drive the car.

But i dont do much city driving anymore, when i take it out, i go right on the highways so getting up to operating temp takes a while.

But usually when i see 190-195F, i hit the fans to normal speed and it stays at 185-190F. Maybe a bit higher if i was boosting alot.
