NON? synthetic oil only? WTF?
 

Ok. this is more towards the FC, but... WTF? Why not? wouldnt it make the car run a LOT better considering the special setup our engines have? And i swear i heard about people using syn oil in rotaries, like the "royal purple" advertised on Racing Beat's site. THAT is a synthetic oil and a damn good one, so can someone explain whats going on there?

AS for the FB, considering their MUCH worse wear rate on the rotor housing surface, wouldn that make it even BETTER for the older cars? :cylonA:

Oh geeze.

That's what I was told kinda, some synthetic oils will break down cuz of the heat in the rotaries, and some will hold up, but they haven't all been tested in rotaries either. I go to Banzai racing for work on my car and if you put synthetic in your car it voids your warranty on your motor.

um.... who said syn molecules break up under high temps? if anything, non synthetic would be less resistant to heat... at least that is what I thought?

after reading numerous thoughts on this my options tat I am ging to be running with my new engine are as follows:
With OMP in place: Use a pure synthetic with the lowest ash content I can find.

Without OMP: Use a pure synthetic and premix with 2 stroke oils (which is designed to burn off)

Either way, I am going pure synthetic. Now it is just to research which oils are made with truly synthetic stock.

Same here. FACT is Synthetic oils have a MUCH high flash point then conventional mineral oil.

To bad you couldn't fill your motor up with 2 stroke since that is synthetic too.

I was looking for syntetic oil and called the dealer to find out what grade oil and they said DONT USE SYINTETIC>.... it IS very BAD lol.... nah.. but they did say that.. dont use it

mypoint was : why would RB recomend ROLYAL PURLE SYNTHETIC if there were known problems associated with using a "syn" oil in a 13B? THAT was what i was trying to pint out. Also, FD guys=mean, so I'll stick to the FC section from now... :squint:

LOluck, burn your sythies in your engine, we are not mean just speak from the fd HOF, had an fc and would never ever do sythentic - your choice- see your friends in apex seal nirvana.

WOW! And this forum does not cease to astonish me. Royal Purple actually says it's okay to use synthetic. Mr. Amemiya, and Fujita have their own synthetic oils also. Take that into account, and guess what!? Not all oils are the same. The FD section is mean for a reason. It's so you have to read and find out a solution. Not just me saying,"Hey brother, oh you need help!? I have a solution!" Then me being that one person who was nice to you, and gave you an answer first, I will be the reason you exploded on the middle of the highway. You catch my drift?

And why, exactly, would you never use synthetics?

All I know is of the tuners here in Japan that I have talked to and had work done on my FD they have all said to use synthetic oil. They also only use synthetic in their FC's and FD's, some are mostly stock up to a couple that are pushing 700hp. I have never run non-synthetic in my FD, but the bottom line is you can still blow an engine regardless of the oil if you aren't careful and decided to do something like crank up the boost to 1.5 bar on a stock FD.

like a few of these guys have mentioned, just about all of the top RX7 tuners in Japan use synthetic and even offer their own synthetics. however, this debate will go on until the end of time... personally, for what little time i could drive my FD before it had to go under the knife, i used Idemitsu. it's synthetic, this is taken from RX7.com's website:

And yet the BUILDERS.....the CREATORS of the Mazda rotary specifically say, in about 32 different places, to never use synthetic.

Period.
Personally, I will go with the company that has spent billions of dollars in R&D and thousands of hours on the dyno bench over the opinion of a few upstarts with extremely limited resources and products that often only have to 'survive' a few hours, rather than years.
I use synthetic or semi-synthetic in every piston engine I own, but will never use anything but the MANUFACTURER'S recommended oil in my rotary(s). Plain old dino juice helped my FC go 173,000 miles without a wrench ever being on it before I sold it. That alone speaks volumes to me.

Ahhhhhhh....the literally endless debate on oil....it will NEVER go away, will it?
