Non-Seq Help.. PROS please..

Sup guys...

just finished doing non-seq on my car and well run into a couple of problems.

#1. i'm running the base map on a PFC
#2. when i started the car up the 1st time it ran like a champ at 800rpms for a little bit then i started hearing some sounds.
#3. sounds seem like they are coming from the turbo area..
#4. I smell fuel coming from under the UIM.. so i'm sure some injectors aren't seated right or something.. The FPD is brand new as well.

Now the car doesn't want to idle on its own at all.. and has problems starting.. like its flooded.. also as well, the watertemp doesn't show any change, its hooked up to the sensor, but the temp guage goes to op temp..

any one have any ideas..??

Which non-seq did you do, poormans or the full non-seq? What other mods are on your car?

Fd3BOOST 02-01-04 10:27 PM

If it was all working fine before you did the mod, you should go back and double check all you work.
I can't tell what happened from the symptoms you mention but common sense would say to trace your steps backward.
sorry

twinturborx7pete 02-01-04 10:35 PM

its a full non-seq.

It was running fine before....its been down for 3 months while i've been modifying it.

Mods include.

PFC
intake
nonseq turbos
ported LIM UIM
DP, MP, Catback

Well definitely be suspicious of the fuel delivery system.
Don't know what could have failed but something is fucking up.

911GT2 02-01-04 10:50 PM

This may be presumtious, but that sounds like a blown engine. Fuel smell, won't idle, odd noises. Have you checked the MAP sensor hose?

twinturborx7pete 02-01-04 10:50 PM

just kinda pisses me off since i torqued everything to spec and i still run into stupid fuckin problems.

twinturborx7pete 02-01-04 10:52 PM

don't see how the engine could be blown, its the first time its started since i tore it down and it ran perfectly before.. got a pettit reman in it only about 20k old.

twinturborx7pete 02-02-04 02:20 PM

anyone else?

clayne 02-02-04 03:15 PM

I don't think it's blown at all.

#2. when i started the car up the 1st time it ran like a champ at 800rpms for a little bit then i started hearing some sounds.
#3. sounds seem like they are coming from the turbo area..
#4. I smell fuel coming from under the UIM.. so i'm sure some injectors aren't seated right or something.. The FPD is brand new as well.
2. What kind of sounds?
3. Where in the turbo area?

4. But you didn't mess with the injectors right? Purge Control Solenoid Valve (EVAP) still present?

5. What smog equipment did you remove?

twinturborx7pete 02-02-04 03:39 PM

i don't have any smog equip.. its barebones now..

noise is in the turbo area.. almost from the bov's..Its kinda like a ticking type sound.. but not.. its weird..

well the injectors were pulled off, but not removed from the rails...

mad_7tist 02-02-04 04:13 PM

the ticking sound could be a small exhaust leak from the dp manifold etc... i would find the fuel leak first.

twinturborx7pete 02-02-04 04:17 PM

can't see anything coming off the dp or anything.. checked around it.. no black soot or anything suggesting an exhaust leak... its something i've looked into but haven't found any evidence of yet. i will do a compression test here in a few.. if its blown, i have no idea how.. since it was just started up and idled.... not even driven!

i will also change out the spark plugs if compression is OK. rebuilding engines is a pain in the ass.. but hey... love is love...

clayne 02-02-04 04:24 PM

There's really no reason for it to be a blown engine here.

Do you still have the ISC?

twinturborx7pete 02-02-04 04:24 PM

ISC is the idle control right? if so, yes.

I wasn't suggesting that the engine would be blown, it had no reason to blow. I was suggesting that his symptoms sounded rather like a blown engine, which are the same symptoms as having the MAP sensor hose knocked off. If he was doing a lot of work it's not out of the question that he could have pinched the line to it or knocked it loose.

clayne 02-02-04 04:47 PM

Good point.

TT, verify map sensor is connected to intake manifold on the rear edge of the manifold by where it meets the TB.

Also verify electrical connection.

When the clicking happens, disconnect ISC to see if that stops the sound (for troubleshooting process right now).

Were o-rings replaced when doing any of the injector work?

twinturborx7pete 02-02-04 05:07 PM

the injectors were never pulled from the rails.. just the rail was lifted off the LIM and the FPD was replaced. The MAP sensor is on.. thats an obvious one :) but i pulled the L plug on the 2 rotor and its like cake black.. nasty hardened black soot.. Sounds like fouled plugs..

but that doesn't explain the fuel smell unless the engine was flooding and i was smelling fuel coming up out of the engine? i'll update you guys with a compression test here within the hour.. i appreciate all the help thus far.

Okay, very important:

What vacuum nipple do you have your fuel pressure regulator attached to?

P'cola FD 02-02-04 06:08 PM

I would guess the ticking near the turbos to be an exhaust leak. If you cut out the TCA door and welded in the hole on the bottom of the manifold, look there. Also, did you torque the exhaust manifold on good? Did you use new exhaust gaskets?

Ok, the fuel, are the little rubber insulators in the LIM where the injectors go? If not, there is a big problem.

Also, you said the coolant sensor is not reading anything. Are you looking in the sensor menu on the PFC? If it is the main coolant temp sensor, then (depending on the PFC's failsafe) that could be making your car run really rich. My coolant temp sensor went bad, and on a stock ecu (runs fuel for the car being warmed up if the sensor is bad) the car wouldn't start without some ether in the intake. When I put the AEM in (before I changed the sensor) the car ran super rich all the time (as though the car were always cold). I would get a new sensor if it is bad, because that will make your car run poorly, more than likely.

pete it goes to the one on the lim pointing towards the dash

serves you right for going non sequential

twinturborx7pete 02-02-04 07:21 PM

the FPR is hooked up correctly. I know that my primary injectors are leaking.. need to replace the insulators that go on the bottom.. can hear and smell the leak.

Compression tested out A-OK i'm glad to report. The Leading plugs were nasty and black charred.. totally wasted. Put some newer used plugs in it and it will hold idle much better..

The water thermosensor is fine.. its just so cold it didn't seem like it wanted to move.

The MOP on the other hand has no voltage and does not work... its all hooked up, but the PFC reads 0.00v on it and has it highlighted?? Anyone?

This time around didn't hear or see any exhaust leaks..so everything is seated. Everything was replaced and torqued to mazda manual spec with a torque wrench.

So i'll let you guys know what happens after i get those insulators in.

Thanks any other input is greatly appreciated.

SurgeMonster you have to get off your nonsequential hating kick. LOL! How is your car running by the way?

mad_7tist 02-02-04 07:59 PM

ray has the insulatorsn3a1-13-257 they go from the primary fuel block and seal it to the engine block, for 3.38 a piece

the lag of a big single with the flow of small stock twins I dont gotta get over hating it!!

ask mad_7tist how its running :D
