Non-Cali ECU vs. Cali ECU
 

I was wondering what would be the difference between a non-Cali ECU and a Cali ECU. Here's the deal, I bought my 3rd gen from a guy that moved from California. The car was originally bought in Los Angeles.

Now that the car is here in Atlanta, It just got to me that I might still have the Cali ECU. Does this limit my HP/through the exhaust because of California's Smog and Emission issues?


Now, I am really curious. I feel like I got robbed. Hehe. Anybody have any info please let me know.

What year is your car? The CA emissions crap varied by year.

For a non-specific answer, if there is any difference in performance, you're only going to be looking at 1-5 hp difference (if that)... It's not like back in the '70's when CA cars came with huge thermo-reactors and restrictor plates. The new stuff is fairly tame and on par with the rest of the country.

I wouldn't think a thing of it. Look for the cheap EGR fix and you'll be as good as GA. :) Seems like CA cars are more of a worry because of reliability problems with their extra parts as opposed to any hp gain/loss. Besides that, the EGR closes back up after, I think, 3200 rpm - so it's just as good as anything else beyond that point.
