no "wing" needed to create downforce...

........on the Enzo Ferrari.

The design of the BOTTOM of the car creates 750 pounds of downforce at 135 mph.

Has anyone else checked out the pics and story in AUTOWEEK? Man, that car is a work of art. Not as good looking as many other cars, but a true engineering tour-de-force.

Oops....meant this to be in the Lounge....my bad.

uhmmmm, the F1, Lemans and other types of pan cars have been doing that for years. Not exactly a new break through. The down force created from the F1 body is enough to hold the car upside down against the ceiling when traveling at race speeds (remember the scene from Driven when the cars passed the man hole cover.).

Yeah, I know....see I was all involved in the debate over winged vs. non-winged FDs and then someone got to talking about the whole downforce-created-by-a-wing thing again and Ferraris got brought up and debated and.....well, you see......:D

Some beautiful pics of the Enzo in that Autoweek article too. They were unusual....they opened the car up to show off the engine and the unusual doors. And they shot if from above, which also showed off the car's unusual taillights.

And, yes, many of the newer super-high speed cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin are now coming with a clean, no wing look.

But then again, the FD doesnt have under body panels that create enough vacuum to pull the car down towards the ground...so......FDs DO need wings :p:

Unless someone decides to make a kit. :D

with a bowtech/diffuser and a good front bumper and some spats, you would do pretty good without a wing. Also if you put it low to the ground. It would be even better, if you got some panels made for the bottom of the car to keep it stream line...

It's partially the way the car is designed underneath, but it also has a lot to do with the holes flowing through the car. The 360 does the same thing, looks a lot better, and costs a lot less.
