no p/s sucks!!!
call me a weakling all you want. . . i just took my a/c out and decided to try not using the p/s for a while. . . thats too much. its not worth it to me. i just keep thinking about what its gonna be like on the autox track. does it get any better when you remove the actual pump? ive never driven a car w/o p/s when its supposed to have it.
paul (ouch, my arms hurt!!!) |
you cant notice it really when you are driving at speeds 20 mph or above. i think it gives you a better feel of when the car is giving loose but it can be a bit much for a daily driver.
|
i think thats my problem. my car is driven more than 3 days a week and i dont wanna deal with that all the time.
|
cars without p/s are easier to drive than a car that normally has p/s because the p/s is actuated by pump so when its disabled your basicly manualy pumping the system instead of just turning the wheel.
|
In my (FC) experience with taking off the PS, it's a COMPLETELY different beast with the pump still on. I went from thinking "I could get used to this" with the pump still on, to "my grandmother could do this" @ a standstill.
|
yes. . . i realize that. . . but what i really WANT to know is why does everyone think it feels so great when it doesnt. . . the only added feeling is a pair of sore arms!!!
paul |
i think you need to do more curls and work on your tri's and a couple pushups at least
|
it was that much of a difference w/o the pump? thanks liquid. . . :D
paul |
You wuss! It's much easier if you remove the pump. :)
|
my first car had no p/s. . . it wasnt this shitty.

point taken. . .
i need to drive one that already has it removed. . . just to know. . . i dont wanna take it off, then put it back on. . . that would piss me off. paul |
Hans: Oh!!! poor little girly man Paul, his flabby muscles are sore and can't drive his puny little car.
Why don't you get on a 50 cent ride at the entrance of Target. Maybe you can turn that free wheeling steering. Fran: I've seen more muscle on a chicken wing... you know. Chick chick chick. My mother auto-X's a Yugo with no steering in Austria. :D Seriously now, I don't see why removing it, unless you are a real racer. I'm a girly man too, I need the P/S. |
Does clean up some of the engine bay nicely though!

I heard it's not really the same when you take the belt of, as like taking everything out and looping the two lines together. I would really like to do this too, but I would like to see on someones car first, before I do it.

Paul,
I agree completely. I tried it for about 5 minutes but I had 285 hoosiers on all four corners. I would think that even at speed you would want the ability to move the wheel as quickly as possible for crisis management :) Fritz |

I remember driving both my 79 RX-7 GS and 83 626 without power steering. The only time you realized the cars didn't have power steering was when trying to park.
That said, those cars were several hundred lbs lighter than the FD with much smaller wheels/tires. Half-ass removing the power steering is dumb and I really wouldn't want to go through all the trouble of properly converting my FD to non p/s, so, the p/s stays. |
Polish the pump to match the intake pipes , chrome plate the two belts . Get a Hurst shift knob then take me for a ride . Turn the radio up . Did you order a set of lights for yourself ?
|
id say mines a little cleaner than that WITH the p/s. :D

oly shizzzly thats a big turbo.. i dunno if its just the pic or what.. But dizzzzam!!! i could almost fit my johnson in that sucker ;)

Like rynberg said - if you are gonna do it, do it right.
get a full manual rack from an FC and replace the rack. just disconnecting the power steering feels like shit. i had a TII with manual steering and it felt pretty good. also had a miata with manual steering and that was nice. however, the fd power steering is actually quite nice IMO |
rynberg, thats about my feelings on this. i think im gonna keep it. it feel sooooooooo much better with it in. and i dont have to go messing with things. one less mod for me. hahaha.
duboisr, chrome the belts?? i never thought about that!@!!! im gonna send em out tomorrow. man, that would rock!!!! maybe i should chrome my wiring harness too!!!! paul:D` |

Then I removed it completely and looped the lines with a little fluid left in it...and that made all the difference....then my motor shat on me 2 hours later. but it is as hard to turn the wheel going 20 mph with it disabled as it is sitting still with it removed. :) Sean |
