Nissan Quest / Mercury Villager Horn
 

Okay guys, one of my other to-do upgrades is to replace my anemic horn. After taking DaleClark's advice, I went to pick-n-pull and found a nice one for $9. It came from a '95 Villager. I was surprised that it was in decent shape because a few in the yard that had rusted frames and back covers.

Once I get my oil coolers back from American Cooler Services, I'll attack both R1/R2 cooler upgrade and horn replacement. For the time being, take a look at the horn pics. If I can swing it, I'll post a sound clip for anyone interested (after it's installed).

BTW, the quest/villager horn is located under the driver side headlight. It is best to remove the horn thru the driver side headlight area. Nearly all of the vans in the lot had these lights removed. Otherwise, remove 6 screws that hold the leading edge of the wheelwell cover (note: there is one screw under the front lip). Slide the cover out of the way then disconnect the two electrical connectors. Next, use a 10mm socket with 6" (or less) extension to remove the one bolt in the middle of the bracket. There is a retaining tab that keeps the horn from wobbling so you may encounter slight resistance when pulling the horn out.

Hope this small write-up helps for the rest of us to swap out horns. I'd like to thank DaleClark for being the first to recommend the quest horn.

Hahaha, yep, that's them! Hopefully it's not the ones off my old Quest that I sold 8 months ago :).

For those of you new to this, my old minivan/daily driver had a decent sounding horn. Not "look at me wow" or anything, just a respectable, regular, deep horn. The RX-7's horn is so wimpy and high pitched.

I wanted to replace the stock horn with one that sounded better but was OEM quality. You pretty much have to pull the bumper off the car to do anything with the horns, and I didn't want to have to keep going in there for flaky wiring, relays, whatever.

You can just bolt these dudes up, plug the OEM wire into them, and you're good. You have to bend the brackets a little and fiddle with the mounting position, but it's easy. Just point them down so any water that gets to them will run out and not collect in the horn.

These are EASY to find at the junkyard, Nissan/Mercury made a crapload of those vans and pretty much no one is looking for the horns. I think I paid all of $5 for the set I got a while back.

When you mounted the horns, you kept them on the same bracket? I was under the impression that the bracket gets tossed.
