NEWBIE: single or twin turbo
 

i was going to try and import a skyline but dont care to have the hassle... but i remember a guy with a twin turbo rx7 down in redding, ca that was smoking supercharged gt mustangs like they were nothing...

my question is since i want to buy an rx7 is whether to go with single or dual turbo?

Question really isn't whether to go single or stay twins, but rather how much discretionary income and time do you have?

Not meaning to come across as 'Pops', but I can't begin to count the number of new enthusaists that find themselves caught up in a FD financial nightmare. Definitely not a car if you don't want 'hassles' (though I'll argue, most times, worth it though). :)

yea you need to figure out what your budget is and what your power goals are.

Single turbo all the way.

What are your goals? A certain 1/4 mile time? A certain RWHP number?

How much money do you have to spend on this?

Am I wrong when I say it's always best to go single when making big power regardless the platform? I personally think you should got single... I;m going to stick to my twins for the meen time.

I've learned that it depends on what your plans are for the car.

If you are driving it on a daily basis- twins (brn/ 99 spec)
If you are driving it as a weekend warrior- Single

I'm going with the single and am currently researching a setup
that will make it possible to drive on a daily basis.

I couldent agree more.

going single or staying twin does depend on your budget but also what you want to get out of the car. I you want big power (450hp and up) and love lighting up the 1/4, then single is the way to go. However, if you like doing autoX and taking the car out road courses, then staying with a twin setup might be better.

Just remember, going single turbo dosent always mean more power - there are several members on here with a"stock like" twin setup making more power than some of the single guys.

im curious to what you have come up with in your research for a DD single comparable to the BNRs


i say your best bet is a GT35R (T3,T4) w/ long runner mani
