newbie question... How much power can RX-7 handle???
 

Im curious on about how much power the RX-7 stock engine can handle??

evidently, the stock motor has been pushed close to 400rwhp. . . as far as i know. . . thats it. do some porting. . . and youre ready to rock.

I thought we decided on 600hp in that other thread. ;)

apparently some FDs cant handle their stock hp... so i'd say on average your safe at around 180-190hp ;)

No im not kidding.. I dont know shit about the rx-7 and im about get one..

I currenty own a SRT-4 2003 and its pushing 470 WHP... SO i know cars but i just dont know anything about he RX-7 yet.. But i will learn.. :bigthumb:

you can run 10s on a stock port motor with a hell of a surrounding cast.

This isn't a piston motor, you don't need all sorts of titanium crap.

I will tell ya that realistically, 350 rhwp is about the limit for everyday reliability. With water injection I feel you can push it to ~400 rwhp, which is my plan.

So what do you guys do about upgrading the motor? like i know with a piston motor you upgrade pistons rods etc.. but what about the rotory? Im curious becuse i plan on pushing 400 to the wheels daily driven.. But i know its not easy.

Normally putting a new cam in is all you need to do....

I heard that a lower compression head gasket works wonders for these engines though...

It will be very hard to get a "daily" driver if you have stock twins and a stock engine that will be reliable. if you want 400 rwhp go for a street port engine and a small single so you have good spool time and hit your HP requirements

see i plan on running a single turbo like a GT40 or somthing similair... Were can i find these ported engines? and is that all i need to do? get a port engine?

I'll let you in on a little secret, the best parts you can buy for these engines are OEM. Yes that's right the best parts engine wise come from Mazda. The cars making 200-800 rwhp are using factory seals, rotors, housings, etc... (Except the Racing Beat housings and PP housings which are modified stock housings in most cases)
Why is that you ask?
Well we don't have much of a selection when it comes to engine parts and internals. This isn't a small block Cheby.

So the best way to make horsepower besides porting out the stock intake and exhaust passages is to get a well balanced set of components (like any vehicle) including intake, exhaust, turbo, ecu and fuel components.

a street port, 60-1, 1600cc secondary injectors, stand-alone EMS, good clutch, adj FPR, bigger fuel pump, bigger intercooler, bigger exhaust, ignition amplifier, that should be about it. . . maybe some other things. . .

i hope you have some cash set aside. Because if you are looking to take a STOCK rx7 and make 400+rwp you will probably need around $6K if you want a new engine, ecu, fuel, tuning, turbo....ect

well then... You can go to many places to get a street ported engine. A street ported engine basically means that there was porting done to the intake and exhaust ports. You really cant do too much else other than porting on a rotary without getting too crazy expensive. You can get engines from: rx7store.net (jason), Pineapple racing, a handful of places in texas. With 10k you should be able to build a pretty bad ass rx7
