Newbie question
 

Yeah guys i'm new to this and i have a simple but serious question. My car has 74k on it I'm the second owner and it just change the exhaust and i notice a large carbon deposit throughout the exhaust, i didn't really know what to make of it. So i took it to mt boy and he said that its burning oil i don't know what to make of it just yet. I know that these motors have a limited life expectancy so i'm just looking for any ideas what thats about. Thank you.

carbon deposit specifically where?

all stock besides exhaust?

I'm sure its all stock except for the downpipe mid pipe and exhaust

Normal for running rich without a cat. Do you have a boost gauge, because normally a full exhaust like that (on an otherwise stock car) would cause greatly elevated boost and boost creep, resulting in a blown motor.

so running a downpipe, mid pipe and non stock exhaust will cause boost creep. how do you counter act this? ecu?

i have that exaust set up but im not really driving the car and i havent gotten a chance to install a boost guage and im still looking for the best ecu solution for my car.

is there any difference ecu wise between and auto and a manual? could i run a power fc just fine on an auto?

No i am going to put the boost controler in this weekend With the boost gauge is there anything else that i should do.

First you should read the FAQ sticky before you start modding your car. Rotaries do not tolerate incorrect mods very well and many a blown engine is due to people who don't understand enough about modding these cars but think they do.

Second, don't take everything your "boy" takes you as fact. Rotaries are different from piston motors. Most people don't know what they are talking about. Find a good local rotary specialist shop if you need professional input.

To answer your original question - Most exhausts get carboned on the inside of the pipes regardless of what kind of car it is.

get an ecu to give the car more fuel to counter the creep.. boost controller wont save your motor... having a boost gauge and wideband will help you lots down the road and may save the engine

An ecu is not going to counter boost creep! You need to fix the problem immediately. Port the wastegate, add a restrictor plate, switch to a hi-flow cat or stock cat-back exhaust. You will still need a boost controller to lower the boost back down to stock level of 10 psi. Read the FAQ thread.

Your "boy" saw the black exhaust and immediately decreed "burning oil". Well give that man a gold star! Newsflash....rotaries DO burn oil. It is directly injected into the friggin' engine for criminy's sake?
I wouldn't take your car back to your 'boy' anytime soon....lol! He must be living in the days when a nice, white exhaust was a sign of a healthy engine. 'Course, those days ended when they took lead out of gasoline.......

It won't compensate either, hell I could probably creep to 20+ psi with my setup and there's no compensation for that. Creep needs to be dealt with, not band-aided over.

i think he paranoid about the SOOT he sees.... if his "boy" says it blowing black smoke i'd think it was running rich.... i'd rather be rich than lean, plus every car's exhaust has black stuff in it....
